As an kid I would play hours of games and not even complete them till I got older.... I wasn't the smartest kid, and games like rpgs were kinda hard for me at the time

Here's some

Pokémon R/B/Y - I would get so far till quitting lol
Donkey Kong 64 - The game was too hard for me at the time lol
Spyro 1-3 - When being lost or such i would go around in circles just having fun

Share lol

for me it was only a few, like:

pokemon DP
i played both as a child and didn't beat either til january this year lol

sonic rush
still haven't beaten this to this day haha

dragon quest IX
i've had this game for almost 10 years and i didn't get past the whale boss til 2016 then i pretty much flew though the game and ended up getting stuck in jail with a pig boss stage and i'm still stuck on that level 😅

pokemon ranger: shadows of almia
i had to get my brother to complete this one for me because i just couldn't do it

legend of zelda twilight princess
idk if this counts since i only got it 2 years ago but i literally can't do anything on it
i'm still at the beginning of the game, i might have to start again because i don't even remember what i had to do

I actually made this same exact thread on another forum that I used to be a member of (anyway...)

While I haven't ever really been much of a gamer, I did enjoy playing various games (and still occasionally do, although I don't actively seek out new ones anymore). I managed to defeat almost all of the games that I owned, except for a few like Batman Forever (the SNES version). Things that made it difficult for me was not just the seemingly limited amount of lives, but also the fact that if your life count went down to zero, you had to start all over again right from the very beginning (and I don't recall there being any save function or memory cards either). The furthest I got to was "The Subway" level. It's actually not a terrible game, just happens to be a little difficult. Most interesting level for me was probably "The Hippodrome Circus", which featured a bunch of clowns and you had to find and deactivate a bomb before the timer counted down to zero.

The Jungle Book was another SNES game that I couldn't defeat (farthest I got to was the King Louie level, although I did beat it one time, only to lose on the next level). Again, you couldn't save your progress, and if you lost all your lives, you were forced to go back to the beginning. Those were probably the only games I left unfinished. I'm certain I can defeat them if I put a whole bunch of time and energy into them, but it's not that important to me, so the hell with it!

There was a game called Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage. It was a SNES game based off the popular Looney Tunes show. I tried to beat it but the levels in that game are so ridiculously hard. If you lose all your lives you have to start over again. Yeah no saves or continues. As AVGN would say "WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!" I couldn't even beat this game because it doesn't even save you progress. This is one of those games where if you lose all your lives you had to do the entire game over again.

Final Fantasy IV and Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for me. I got stuck on a boss in FFIV (Scarmiglione, if I'm remembering that name correctly?) and gave up, and when I tried to restart it a few years later I just... could not get into the story at all anymore. I actually really did enjoy what I played of Phantom Hourglass, but some of the later puzzle bits were too intense for me ahaha. I think I had the solution figured out, but I just couldn't work up the courage to push through it. ;v;

As a kid... honestly... All of them! I sucked lol. In all seriousness I think the ones I had the most trouble beating were all Zelda games and pretty much any game other than Mario that you could die in. I found them stressful as an anxious kid. I remember especially sucking at Rayman games! I even found Batman lego challenging, mostly because it became pretty stressful and intense for me.

Zelda games were hard for me also lol, I always had to use a guide

I remember there was one gym in a pokémon game - don't remember which one - where it was like an ice puzzle and I had to get my older brother to help me solve it so I could battle the leader lol. Also, whenever all my pokémon fainted, I wouldn't take the L - I would just turn off the console and try again until I won P:

Very relatable, game guides were honestly crucial for me lol! Admittedly I still sometimes look at a gameplay video or two if I get really stuck on a part of a game or can't figure out one of the mechanics.

I couldn't beat Sonic Advance (for the gameboy advance) when I was young. I remember only barely making it to the third stage (there were 10 stages total), and then dying every time I challenged the boss. I got so frustrated that I stopped playing it lol. I actually found this game online like a year ago and played it for fun and got past the third stage boss battle in under 15 minutes lmao.

I also couldn't beat Super Mario Advance (for the gameboy advance) when I was around the same age. I didn't even make it passed the first level/world because I always got stuck at this one part where you had to find a hidden key and I never found it lol

When I was young I also had Kirby and the Amazing Mirror (for the gameboy advance) which I really loved. I first got it when I was 8 or 9, and couldn't beat the game at that time, but then tried it again when I was like 11 or something and actually beat the whole thing! I was really proud of myself.

Lastly I couldn't beat my Pokemon Fire Red game until I was at least 11 I think. I was stuck at the elite four but eventually beat it with the help of my sister's level 78 charizard as my carry since all my other pokemon were between level 35 and 50 lmao

mine’s a bit random but i’ll chime in anyways aha. when i was younger, i had the DS game “my sims kingdom” where basically, one night a stranger causes a bunch of havoc by destroying businesses, stealing items, etc and you have to repair all the damage while trying to figure out who’s responsible for it and what their motive was. near the end of the game, you have to play a kayaking mini game and win in order to progress and i literally?? could?? not?? do?? it?? to move the kayak, you had to stroke both sides of the screen and little me just,, couldn’t comprehend that for the longest time. 💀

The game I remember having problems the most with was my little kingdom I think that’s what it’s called. It was a wii game and I loved it however some of the boss fights were really hard. My mum used to stay up late trying to defeat some of them for me.
I remember when I replayed it when I was older it was still hard just not a impossible as it was when I was a kid. The killer was tho that the ending was the most anticlimactic ending ever. I just felt like I had wasted my life playing this game. The gameplay and mechanics were great tho

Banjo-Kazooie.
I found the game far more difficult as a kid than I did returning to it years later where I breezed through it with no issues, not even losing a life...But that's not the reason I didn't beat it. I didn't beat it because I was a softie and the spooky level scared me.

Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2...Kind of.
The games themselves I did beat as in I beat the final bosses, but I could never beat any of the optional bosses. A couple I never even knew about so didn't attempt, but the Ice Titan and Sephiroth were basically impossible for me. It became more of a "how long can I last?" than trying to actually beat it. Again, I came back to it when the HD collections were released and I destroyed the optional bosses without that much issue, on proud mode no less. This was one of the more 'fist pump' moments I've had in gaming since I had been trying to beat those as a kid for so many hours, never even knew some existed, and I finally smashed their faces in.

Fire Emblem (the one with Lyn in that retroactively got a tagline when the West found out there were Japan only games before it).
It was just a hard game. I don't think I had played both game with permadeath before or a strategy game, so I found it so difficult to do, though I still loved it. I played through to a certain point so many times trying to make my units 'the best'.
Again, smashed it as an adult.

Mischief Makers.
Another "Because it's hard" title. I haven't actually gone back to this one, so I still haven't beaten it. That said, despite how little of the game I actually managed to do (I really didn't get that far), it struck enough of a chord with me that it's a game I still have a strong fondness and interest in...And the words "SHAKE SHAKE!!" still rattle in my brain.
I think I'm unknowingly waiting for a remaster or remake that I know will never happen, but I definitely need to go back to this one.

Sonic Heroes: the chaos emerald for Bullet Station was impossible to get for younger me. I struggled avoiding the bombs, and sometimes the speed would bug out and I’d be going really slow. Or Sonic would run up the wall, lose momentum and waste time falling. I wonder if it would have been easier had my copy not been the notorious PS2 version. (I totally loved getting sent to my death from strange physics...)

Honourable mention to Kingdom Hearts 2. I couldn’t figure out how to complete a mission in the beginning area at all; my frustration led to the game being swapped for Kingdom Hearts 1.

This one. I don't think I ever got all that far, I spent most of my time just wandering around as Asterix.

This was purchased for me when we were in France - the game played in English, but the manual had none. Then again, it might not have made any difference whatsoever. I just wanted it because it was Asterix, and I loved that lil guy (still do).

Banjo Kazooie. I still say Gruntilda is not an easy boss! We would start so many random Nintendo 64 games and they would kind of fall to wayside when they got too hard lol.
