Flowers lose the gold sparkles if you move them?

I had a bunch of people over and brought some flowers near the airport for them to water. Since a flower normally remembers being watered after you transplant it, I thought it'd be ok to take the flowers back where they were originally once the visitors left. When I replanted them, though, they only had the twinklies you see after watering once. Is this just visual or did they actually lose the visitor boost?

Apologies if I'm slow on the uptake and this is common information already. :/
