Thought it would be fun to share our favorite fish and bug taglines, the thing your character says after catching a bug or fish.
The one that cracks me up the most is for the Pale Chub: "the name seems kinda judgy"

I also appreciate the great purple emperors "purple reign is over"

What are your favorites? Least favorites? (Other than the dreaded sea bass?)

I like the Oarfish tagline in NL when they said "I need a paddle" and the Sunfish when it said "my day is brighter already".

i honestly didn’t pay much attention to the taglines in new leaf but after a bit of research, my personal favourites are;

bee - "i caught a bee! bzzz! bzzz! bzzz! phew! ... but why am i still holding it?!"

snail - "i caught a snail! okay, well, maybe i found a snail."

mole cricket - "i caught a mole cricket! and i didn't even have to reset!"

dung beetle - "i caught a dung beetle! nah, the joke's just too easy."

giant snakehead - "i caught a giant snakehead! but where's the rest of the snake?"

these ones always leave me in giggles. it’s just the fish ones cause im too lazy to write out all the good bug and sea creature ones.

pond smelt; “i caught a pond smelt! it could sure use a bath!

clown fish too; “i caught a clown fish! who’s laughing now?

olive flounder; “i caught a dab... huh? just kidding! it's an olive flounder! make up your mind, fishy!

coelacanth; “holy fish sticks! i caught a coelacanth! am i saying it right?”

oarfish; “i caught an oarfish! good, i needed a paddle!

shark; “i caught a shark! GAH! why am i holding it?!

tuna; “i caught a tuna! and now it's stuck in my head

piranha; “i caught a piranha! or did it catch ME?!

zebra turkeyfish; “i caught a zebra turkeyfish! what are you? make up your mind!

These are my favorite ones (heads up, I love bad jokes):

Bugs:
Moth - "I caught a moth! It finally saw the light!"
Cicada shell - "I found a cicada shell! It's just a shell of its former self!"
Honeybee - "I caught a honeybee! What a sweet catch!"
Ant - "I caught an ant! I'm exuber-ant! (Well...not really...)"
Snail - "I caught a snail! Ok, well, maybe I found a snail."
Fruit beetle - "I caught a fruit beetle! Orange you glad I did?"
Horned atlas - "I caught a horned atlas! It's like a weight has been lifted!"

Fish:
Carp - "I caught a carp! I really seized the diem!"
Tadpole - "I caught a tadpole... I'm sure it will grow on me."
Stringfish - "I caught a stringfish! My theory really paid off!"
Saddled bichir - "Wow! A saddled bichir! Now I'm saddled with guilt!"
Hammerhead shark - "I caught a hammerhead shark! I really nailed it!"

Deep-sea creatures:
Seaweed - "I got some seaweed! I just couldn't kelp myself!"
Sea grapes - "I got some sea grapes! See? Grapes!"
Oyster - "I got an oyster! He's been a bit too shellfish."
Chambered nautilus - "I got a chambered nautilus! Who loses? Not us! Just go with it..."

As for least favorites, there's a few jokes I don't get and some jokes that seem like a stretch even to me, and also the taglines that are more like statements than anything.

These ones are some of my favorites
  • Horned Dynastid - "I caught a horned dynastid! Your era just ended, buddy!"
  • Cicada Shell - "I caught a cicada shell! It's just a shell of its former self!"
  • Emperor Butterfly - "I caught an emperor butterfly! Feeling blue, Your Majesty?"
  • Miyama Stag - "I caught a miyama stag! Glad I overcame my stag fright!"
  • Pop-Eyed Goldfish - "I caught a pop-eyed goldfish! It should have eaten its spinach!"
  • Coelacanth - "Holy fish sticks! I caught a coelacanth! Am I saying it right?"
  • Zebra Turkeyfish - "I caught a zebra turkeyfish! What are you? Make up your mind!"
  • Killifish - "I caught a killifish! Maybe I'll put it in a chili dish!"

My #1 favorite will always be the blue marlin from New Leaf: "I caught a blue marlin! What a true darlin'!"

It's so perfect. In any other situation where I see/catch a blue marlin in video games (like FF14), I have to at least subconsciously add "what a true darlin'!" after the fact.

I find one from City Folk very remarkable due to me having severe lepidopterophobia: "I caught an oak silk moth! Pretty? Or pretty hideous?" 🤣
