It’s becoming quite a trend that people are charging entrance fees of NMT or bells just to come to their town to buy from Sahara or get a villager DIY. I just find this really unsavory and kinda annoying...

Yesterday I wanted to go buy something from Sahara but I literally couldn’t because the person would only take DIYs they didn’t have for entry.

Thankfully I do have a great group of friends who we do all just allow sharing of these random good occurrences throughout our towns, but it’s sad to see that everyone is moreso concerned about entrance fees than just participating in the community. Turnip tips I understand because allowing 4 people to clamor back and forth takes time. But I for one don’t charge anything for entry to my town, and think the AC world would benefit from more people thinking like this smh

It's so stupid. Whenever I have an absurd amount of turnips I have to sell on another player's town/island I always offered 10% of my profits as a thank you, which is normally a couple bundles of 100 turnips. Now people want NMTs which end up being LESS than what I'd give, or WAY more than I find reasonable.

It doesn't help I want to keep NMTs for myself, to you know.. look for villagers.

Yeah, this is getting absolutely ridiculous. Tipping is courteous, of course. These people are doing something good for others and I always like to help return the favor a bit, but requiring entry fees in order to just buy some carpets? I don't think it's appropriate. I get too overwhelmed to host these kinds of things to crowds, but if I ever did, you would never find me charging for entry. This is why I'm glad I have my own friend circles to work with. We all just share these events with each other when we can.

Yeah bells on turnips I think is nice because you are getting a crap ton of bells through the process.... but yeah the others are just people being greedy imo and here and the discord is littered with it

For real. If I were to sell my 10,000 turnips for 580 each, I'd be making 5,800,000 Bells. I'd be more than happy to give them 800,000 Bells as a thank you. But nope, since you made so much... "I want 6 NMT!!"

I am going to try to be more mindful about my own forthcoming... and freely open my town more in the future.
As well as, if someone reading doesn’t have a big friend circle please feel free to add my FC. I play frequently and more than happy to let you know about when Sahara is around, meteor showers, etc. just DM me before hand.

This is exactly why I still have yet to find a good turnip price while visiting without forfeiting your prized possessions.

Its like give your NMT/Bells/Rare items or let your turnips rot and lose out on big money.

Oh and btw. If I ever wanted to open my town on something rare, my turnips are a high price, etc I will. What I won't do is ask for a fee. I'll just add one more letter to "fee".

I think it's nice to offer someone something for allowing you to visit their town, but I've seen someone list their entry fee for visiting Kicks as 10 NMT / 100k IGB (which isn't even a good exchange rate for the two, but I digress) and this just seems ridiculous.

If you're asking to visit someone else's town (back in New Leaf I always asked to visit hair salons in other towns) I think it's only courteous to offer something like a small amount of bells, or some of your native fruits, but if you're *offering* to have people come to your town you shouldn't be asking anything in return. Of course it's nice to receive something in return, and kind players will always leave something for you if you've been a nice host, but asking for a "entrance fee" upfront is crazy to me.

EDIT: also if you just write something like "tips are appreciated but not mandatory" on your post, you're basically guaranteed to get something. The thing about tips is that it's up to the tipper how much or what that tip is. Asking for specific items, or for NMT, or hybrids isn't a tip. That's a fee.

I mean, I could talk about this situation in a more cultural and philosophical sense (and believe me, it's true), but to avoid sounding like a broken record, I'll only say that, everytime players create an economy inside and around a game that isn't competitive (and even I competitive games as well, most of the time), that game becomes worse.

AC was designed, developed and created with a philosophy that is the polar opposite of what it's current fanbase applies to the game. This is a fact, not an opinion.

If more people opened for free and the general majority saw that as the norm, people who charge fees would get less and less traffic and that could be phased out.

The only reason why people are charging fees is because they see others doing it and people are buying from them, so you'd have to change the mindset of the buyers or make free visits more readily available :(

I dont like entry fees.

But animal crossing is like capitalism. Supply and demand
As long as people are willing, and do, pay entry fees there will be entry fees.

Also, tbf, there has been a resurgence of new people thanks to the new game... new people who have never even played AC before. These people dont know that it is courteous to "tip" people who help you by letting you into their island or when there is a big spike. This maybe the entry fee trend currently being so high because of new people not knowing online trade edict as a host or visitor.

Anyways, dont visit people like that. Don't charge them yourself. Eventually it'll settle down.

*sighs in not being able to pick up a dream floor from sahara because I didn't have what they wanted as an entry fee*
People can do what they want though 100%. It does take time to host so it is at a small cost to them, but in my experience, not having an entree fee and just saying tips are welcome will bring in a fair amount of things that make it worth your while, above solely being able to make someone else happy <3

Decided to look at the turnip price thread, and most recent page has someone list a massive list of "Hey I want these things" and I'm just like... whyyyyyyyyy.

Sheesh, seeing people wanting NMT compared to those who don't want to TT almost makes you seem like you're desperate and required to TT in order to get NMT faster.

Think about the not TTers like me. *Sad Paperboy012305 noises*

All of these stories is why I'm in no rush to buy an online subscription even though I'd love the fruits/flowers I don't have, and even though I'm sick of my town's terrible turnip rates. I've been lucky to make a super small profit so far. Last week was a constantly decreasing week for the entire week, and this week so far has only been losses too. Hoping for a spike. :/ But at least I'm not being charged entry fees and other nonsense.

eh a charge makes sense to me if someone's letting strangers come to their island, especially if they're letting multiple people in. sure some people are a little excessive (like 5 nmt for one visit is a little much imo lol) but considering they're taking a chunk out of their own time to let a bunch of people they've never met in, a small service fee of like 1 nmt is pretty reasonable.

if you wanna offer stuff for free then go for it but i personally don't see an issue with (reasonable) entry fees, you have to keep in mind they don't know you.

i will say i do have a problem with people calling it a "tip". it's a fee.
