I love playing around with makeup! It's not something that I feel like I
need to wear and that's why it's fun for me. I was never allowed to wear it when I was younger, it was only when I was out of school and making my own money that I was able to buy it without my dad saying anything. I've been really lucky in the sense that I've never had a job which forced or expected me to wear makeup which is something I appreciate as well. I generally only wear makeup on days that I don't have work because I like taking my time to apply it and getting to enjoy the process.
Some general tips (keep in mind I'm not that good at makeup I just like it, lol):
-Figure out your skin type, if you don't already! This one is important in terms of how you'll go about prepping your skin, setting your makeup, and can help you decide which sort of base products you want. I have oily skin that is even oilier in the summer

I still moisturize my skin and keep all my skin care the same! But I know I need to keep my expectations realistic and accept that those super dewy, glowy foundations/skin tints may not be my best bet in terms of something that will last a long time on my skin. If I do want to go with something that has a dewier/glowier finish then I tend to go in with a mattifying primer and I (personally) need to set my face with powder.
-Figuring out your undertone can also be really helpful! It makes it easier to pick foundations
and lipsticks. Undertones can affect how lip colours show up on your skin. Unfortunately I still haven't figured out mine.
-As somebody who is oily I find eyeshadow primer makes
all the difference. I see a lot of people in beauty videos who use concealer on their eyes and then do their eyeshadow on top but that's never worked for me. My eyeshadows crease in a heartbeat if I do that! Primer helps keep my eyeshadow from creasing and helps things blend better. I also love using a glitter primer when I want my shadows to have a little more pop to them (I don't wear glitter on my eyes, though!! I'm skeptical of all glitter, even those that claim to be eye safe). I personally use the Milani Eyeshadow Primer and it's lovely! Essence also makes a really nice one too. Both are inexpensive!
-I love using blending sponges to apply my makeup! I find they give the most natural finish (they absorb some product so it's not quite so heavy), they're the easiest and quickest to use, but please replace them every 3 months or sooner. For that reason I will always recommend drugstore alternatives as opposed to paying the $20+ that Beauty Blender wants for theirs. I personally use a Canadian brand (Quo) so I'm not much help in regards to other brands but I think Elf makes a good sponge!
-Do as I say and not as I do: use products up (or decide to donate/get rid of) old ones before buying new ones. Don't be like me. Why do I have 15 pink lipsticks. I don't
need 15 pink lipsticks. Or 5 red lipsticks. I only wear red on Christmas I only need one. Makeup is something that I have a really hard time with when it comes to impulsively purchasing. I'm currently on a no-buy (which I realistically should've been on a year or so ago) because I have so many things that I want to actually try to use up. I just wanted to throw this out there because I wish somebody would've stopped me a while ago. I'm just one person, I can only use so many things, I don't need
everything.
Drugstore products that I love:
-Essence Volume Stylist Curl & Hold Mascara! I've been using this mascara for years and I really love it but they honestly have a ton. I know their Lash Princess line is really popular. Mascara is something I'm personally always hesitant to pay big bucks for because it needs to be replaced every three months
and the Essence ones are just so good. Essence also makes nice blushes but be aware that the lids are prone to snapping off the little compacts.
-Elf Putty Primer is my go to right now with the Nyx Angel Veil more specifically in my t-zone. Elf does have a mattifying putty primer (and an acne fighting one) which I'm interested to try after I use up these two. As a whole Elf is a really well known and dependable brand with great prices! I'm also loving their tinted lip balm that has a little heart in the middle as well as their halo glow powder (I was afraid it would be sparkly but it's not!!). Nyx is a brand that's more hit or miss, imo. They do have some good products but they can be expensive (especially for drugstore) and I'm bitter they discontinued the Bare with Me Tinted Skin Veil
-Milani Eyeshadow Primer which I mentioned earlier! I haven't tried much from Milani as a whole but the primer is super lovely.
-Benefit Gimmie Brow which I knoooow is expensive and there's supposedly dupes but it works the best for me. They have the best colour for me and it actually stays in place all day long.

I have fairly filled in brows naturally so I only need to use this and it lasts me a while so I don't mind the price. I think Essence makes a good brow gel too and I think they've recently expanded the shade range? I might give it another try because all I remember is the colour I tried before looked so off I didn't even keep it on. The price is 10x better than Benefits, lol.
-For my complexion right now I use the Pixi by Petra undereye corrector, the Catrice colour correcting green primer (I use it only on my spots), the Nyx Tinted Skin Veil, and the Covergirl Clean Fresh concealer. Pixi is a more expensive brand (it's in the drugstore but not really priced like the drugstore). This undereye corrector lasts a long time (at least for me) and I love it because it makes using a lighter coverage concealer doable. The Catrice green primer is a staple for me - I mix it in with foundations (I think I might have slight olive undertones and mixing this in is the only way that I can get things to match, lol) and again using a bit of colour correcting helps make a lighter coverage concealer work. The covergirl clean fresh is light coverage but I like that because it doesn't feel heavy under my eyes or wear off weird. Nyx breaks my heart their tinted skin veil is my love and it's discontinued so I won't talk about it
L'Oreal and Maybelline also make good complexion products (and Maybelline makes good lipsticks!) but I've decided to go cruelty free with my makeup and sadly they aren't cruelty free brands. I will use what I have but I won't be repurchasing. If that isn't an issue for you:
-Maybelline's Lip Crayons are super lovely. They're a matte finish, really easy to put on, last a long time, and there's a good amount of colours! They also have bullet lipsticks which are nice, and they're known for their liquid lipsticks but liquid lipsticks aren't for everyone and if you're new to makeup I would stick to traditional lipsticks, lip crayons, and lip balms honestly. If you do want to try a liquid lipstick though Revlon has these newer Satin Ink ones and they're so pretty
and comfy!! A lot of liquid lipsticks can dry down to a pretty intense matte finish but the Revlon ones stay satin... it's magic. I have the shade Your Majesty and it's really pretty.
-L'Oreal has their Infallible Freshwear 24hr Foundation and I'm gonna be so bummed when I finish my bottle. It's a really nice liquidy formula when you pump it out of the bottle, it goes on super easy, covers pretty well honestly, and it wears nicely. It's got a satin finish, I think? But it's always felt more satin-matte to me which I like.
Anyways!! I'm sure this is embarrassingly long at this point but if you have any questions or just wanna chat about makeup feel free to message me!
