I've TT'ed since New Leaf. As a kid I play all day in WW doing all the chores and talking to my villagers, etc. But as I've gotten older and have more stuff to do, if I didn't TT I'd miss out on some aspects of the game, like when the stores are open, events, villagers being awake. I'm currently in November in my game (look I just want the mush set lol) but I also like to experience the different seasons than my own. Its about to be summer where I live and it's stupid hot here and all I want is cool breezes and to be able to wear sweaters again.
only when i need to cycle someone out. other than that, i prefer my island to be on the same time as real life. that's part of what makes animal crossing special to me.
In my old island I did to cycle out villagers but I feel like it took away so many aspects of the game so I restarted and now I haven’t on my new island and I don’t plan to
I've time traveled a bit to move out villagers when there was an opportunity to get some of my favorites, and to refresh Redd's stock in order to finish that part of the museum. But those are the only reasons so far. I don't get seasonal DIYs or catch bugs/fish until the real date comes along so it gives me something to look forward to
i didn't TT for a few weeks after getting ACNH, which is the first time i've ever stuck to not time traveling in an animal crossing game for more than... a week? i think exploring and savoring all the new stuff was fun, but eventually i got antsy and wanted to tackle a specific thing like breeding hybrids or moving villagers around. every once in a while i go back to the present and go back to not time traveling because i think i actually enjoy the game more like that. i just can't help myself. ;~)
I don't really like to, but I will if I NEED a plot that day. I did it for Tom and Pierce.
at least in this game that's what it is. in past games I had a cycling town as well as if I missed a holiday or my birthday I'd TT back to that day, but that's about it
I TTed for all bugs and fishes and art works, for all 591 DIYs. Also for campsite method and move out villagers.
And for 5 items order limit, so I can get more items faster
For the first month, I didn't TT at all. Then I did to kick a villager, and I felt very bad, but I wanted to search for new villagers so I kinda let me do it. Then, I did it again, and it didn't go as bad. I found out that campsite reset could be done without TTing for years, so I started doing it for Ankha. At thia point hell was unleashed. Now I TT to making moving faster, I TT to fall to get mushrooms, I TT to farm Redd, whatever. I try to limit myself so I can have the chill gameplay back, so for example I decided to stop for a while since the museum event.
I think that when you TT so much, it really makes you feel like a god lol. The game feels more like the sims. It's not exactly bad, but I missed the connection I had with my villagers so that's why I made myself stop. (I don't mean this judging who TT it's just playstyles and what I prefer).
edit: also I don't want to get spoiled of seasons and holidays but where I live it's fall rn and my friend are all in fall, so I was already spoiled. I made the mistake of chosing northern hemisphere, so I thought I would just "pretend" to be on southern hems lol I lived in november for a week, but it was throwing me off bc my only calender is this game and I made the mistake to not travel to Sunday on a Sunday (i think it was monday), so I was messing up the week days irl lol
I've only TT'd once, right before I reset, because I wanted to give my friends some villagers from my island. It was a rather stressful experience. I prefer the lazy pace of non-TT gameplay.
I originally only TT'd for cycling villagers out but honestly I TT through every day now. I've been trying to get certain items from the Nook Shop as well as breed hybrids and finish up collecting certain DIY's so once I've finished with my daily tasks I just TT to the next day. It makes the game feel more like Stardew Valley or Story of Seasons which I don't mind.
I TTed a whole lot when I was getting my dreamies and now that I have them I've tried to stop, but will still do it every now and then if I want to order something from my catalog for a trade. And I change the time a lot cause I wake up and sleep late so if I played without TTing I would ever get to buy turnips, and half of my playtime would be in the dark. But for the most part I'm trying to stay within the same week so that I don't I don't complete too much of the game and get bored later
I have only done it about 3 or 4 times to get villagers out so I can pick up a dreamie. Other than that, I prefer not to. I have been thinking about time traveling to certain times in the day so I can catch fish I have missed, though.
I'm lucky enough have two games - a main and a secondary. In my main town, I play day by day and don't tt. I do this because I want to be able to enjoy the game for years and admire the progress I've made (especially since it'll be years and years between games). I want to stretch it out for as long as possible.
In my second town, I do tt! This helps me gather resources to sell/trade, and host events like cataloging parties and the like.
I turn to this town when I'm feeling impatient.
Sometimes to landscape during the daylight. Sometimes to move up things like bridge building, ordering an item, or moving houses because I don't feel like splitting up design projects over days. I always go back to the current date though.
