My name is Raven.

Yes, that’s my legal name and not a nickname/gaming persona. Common responses to my name include:
“That‘s so Raven!”
“Like the Teen Titan?”

It might not sound all that weird, but hear me out.

I have been raised in a southern American Catholic home, school, and community my entire life (I identify as agnostic now) so my name stands out a lot since it’s not straight out of the Bible or a Saint’s name. For those who aren’t religious, a Saint is a Catholic person who lived a holy life and became a venerable figure after their death.

I am also biracial (half white and half hispanic) and my name is unlike any other on either side of my family. My mom wanted me to have a different name and she succeeded.

Although I was bullied for my name as a little kid (yup, that happened) I have learned to love and appreciate it more. I have only met three or four people named Raven in my life (I’m 17) and none of them spelled it the way I do.

Do you have a rare/unique name? Tell me about it!

i also have a unique name, ive never met someone with my name haha. im pretty sure a few other people have it tho.
im so sorry u were bullied for ur name : ( luckily im not but most teachers get it wrong and its a pain having to correct them. most ppl just call me some sort of variation of what a teacher called me lmao

my legal name is vietnamese so it’s really uncommon in america (not to mention it was relatively long)

i go by my middle name but every time we had a sub i had to sit through them squinting really hard while trying to pronounce my name 😔

I wouldn’t call my name rare to be honest, but I also have never met another guy IRL named Riley. They’ve all been girls and all of their names were variations in spelling, hahahaha (even though Riley originated as a male name). That’s terrible that kids bullied you for your name though. Some kids can be so rude. I actually think the name Raven is pretty cool.

I'm really sorry you got bullied. I love the name Raven, and always have! It's really pretty and it reminds me of my favorite bird family, corvids (crows and ravens)! <3

My name is pretty rare I guess? My name is Clara, which is a name I rarely see anywhere and I've never met another person irl or on the internet with it! Most people tend to mistakenly call me "Claire" though, which is fine. I used to hate it when people mispronounced my name or called me something different altogether, but I've started adopting "Claire" as a nickname of sorts. If people wanna call me it, I'm fine with that! I'll happily answer to it, especially when I'm at work as most of my co-workers call me such out of habit.

Thank you! I love my name now. I embrace it.

I’m grateful that my name is easy to pronounce. Substitute teachers usually give me funny looks because I’m the only Raven in my Catholic high school of about 400 kids.

I hate that! I’ve known people with Vietnamese names and because I live in the southern USA teachers often have little to no exposure to Asian names. They don’t even try to pronounce them and I find that so degrading.

I knew a guy named Riley when I stayed in Texas for a vacation as a little kid. This is a long shot, but did you ever live in Keller, Texas?

Thanks!

Your name is cool too! It sounds more youthful and brighter than “Claire.”

Mine is Abriana and I've never met anyone irl with my name. I met a very small selection of people online with it tho

I’ve never heard that name before. I like it!

Nope, haha. I’ve had family that has lived there, but I’ve never lived there myself. Must have been someone else.

Yoo, your name's Riley? My name's Riley, too! To be fair, I'm not a boy...

Nope. It was in the top ten the year I was born, and it’s a common name for girls my age. It has no significance to my family in any way, and the nicknames are for men. Hate it.

where i'm from, it might be? i've never met a guy from over here that was named ezekiel, but i'm pretty sure it's a more common name elsewhere. it's always kind of funny when you have this really common last name and your first name just sticks out like a sore thumb, literally anywhere.

My name is not one of the most common names out there, but I always seem to end up in a class with or working on a team with at least one other person who shares my name. It's kind of annoying always having to be called by your full name to differentiate yourself from the other person. My name is unusual in the fact that it's more common as a nickname, though, so people are always asking me what my name is short for (as there are a couple of different variations that use my name as a nickname) and I have to explain that this is just my name. There's nothing more to it.

For the record, I love all of your names and think they are very unique and cool.

My name isn't really rare by any means, however, I find that most people shorten it and I don't know too many people that a go by the full name (Lillian)

edit: to add, I've had teachers and people just shorten it anyway, and during roll at the beginning of the year, where the teacher says to mention a nickname if you go by one, I've had teachers ask me if I'm sure I don't go by a nickname-

My name is pretty unique! My first name is the name of a princess from an 80’s movie, and not many people know how to say it. Let’s say it was Kayli, people always call me Bayleigh. But that’s not even the name I go by. I go by a uniquely spelled nickname off my middle name, which is also the name of a children’s character! My last name is also the name of a children’s character, so I got bullied a bit too for having two “childish” names :(

My full name is Kimberlee, so it's a common name spelled weirdly. Nobody ever spells my name right--even some of my extended family spells it wrong. Growing up I always wanted to get those pencils and keychains and stuff that had my name on them but it was always spelled Kimberley or Kimberly smh. So I always got Kim because that's what most people call me anyway.
