Your parents would allow a stranger to get in their car? That's as risky as picking up a hitchhiker, IMO. What if they plan to attack you with a knife? Instead, maybe they could offer to buy some food and bring it back?

Yeah well obviously there's risks to everything you do, but I think it's nice that they go out of their way to help people like that, and it obviously hasn't harmed them so far.

Yes, it is nice of them. However, it's equally nice (and much safer) to offer to buy and bring back some food for the person. That's all I meant. "Don't get in a car with strangers" has been drummed into my head my entire life...that, and watching "Unsolved Mysteries" since I was a child. LOL
I do, but only if they're on the side of the road and I'm driving so that I can drive away if anything happens. They've always been nice and thankful though. The homeless where I live are often veterans and are missing limbs sometimes so I always feel bad for them.
