My mom does. The last time she did it was when there was a homeless man in petsmart. She ignored her, but she had second thoughts and gave money to the homeless man.

here and there.

a lot of them are totally fake and stand in the same spot everyday, different signs and stories.

some of them have flat out told me "k thanks now I can afford my alcohol!" and things like that so at this point I don't really care to anymore.

quit begging for money and ask for a job or something. we're all tight these days.

Not usually, generally because I never carry actual money around with me day-to-day, just my card, but I have done many times in the past. It upsets me, but as I hand money over the only thing on my mind is that they're going to spend it on alcohol or drugs. I think next time I'd definitely go to a caf? and buy a warm drink or a sandwich to give away instead; that way I'd know my money was going to benefit someone instead of feeding a habit.

But unfortunately I've noticed more and more lately in my city, it would be pretty impossible for me to give money to every single homeless person I see every day...

No. I don't carry cash. Also, most of the "homeless" people that are panhandling are not actually homeless. Some of them will even admit it if you ask them directly. They make more panhandling in a single day than they would working at McDonald's or Walmart.

sometimes. i dont always have cash on me, or may only have enough on me for whatever errand i'm running. sometimes the person seems drunk or headed to the liquor store, or just gives me a bad vibe, or seems to be a professional panhandler type with a sign and everything.

I never do. A lot of the people on street corners looking for handouts around where I live are just too lazy to get a real job

No. I only give to buskers.

A friend of my mother walked past a homeless man and came back later with food for him. He refused it and asked for money instead. He got squat.

Absolutely not. There are too many people around where I live that stand out near highway exits and near stores begging for money & they're not all homeless. If I see one standing near a stop sign, I'll deliberately change my route to avoid stopping near them.

I live in Baltimore and the way we go is if they're street performing and catch your eye you owe him a few bucks, never give money, only food, water, or school supplies if there is a child involved. A lot of scammers use the money they get to buy heroin or crack so generally, I don't hand out my lunch money.

(Also if you don't know what Baltimore is/is like,,,, look up its crime and drug rates,, they're bad... we used to be called the murder capital of the America)

Last time my family did,we gave this woman a 5 dollar bill, and she was like why not 20?

I'll throw them bills when I have them but I find myself using my card a lot more these days. Speaking of cards, I pass along Free Value Meal cards from work to them too whenever I get one.

Can't say I do. I would if I knew they were legitimately homeless where I live. However, on my route to and from college each day, I see the same person, day after day, just sitting there in the same position- on the bridge where a multitude of people pass- and begging for money. A lot of the time, he's not alone. That's awfully suspect, I think, considering how many people pass by there on a daily basis, and how many are bound to give him money.

However, like another user said (can't remember who they are, sorry), I'd happily give money to buskers. Technically not the same, but there's sure to be homeless buskers out there, at least.

EDIT: That is, if I have any money on me.

I will sometimes give them atleast 5-15 dollars. I generally judge their character before giving them an ammount though, I can usually tell whenever someone is faking it.

it isn't right to see someone suffering with hunger, but if they're faking it and depend on it then thats just sick in the head.

usually i don't. but sometimes i'll spare a few dollars here and there.
mostly what i do is offer unopened drinks to them. i usually carry a few extra cold bottles of water with me anywhere i go, and sometimes i'll have bottled or canned teas and i'll gladly offer those up to someone pan handling around major streets and such.

I usually don't
sometimes im scared to approach them and I'm worried that they'll use the money for drugs and/or alcohol
I heard that one of my cousin's got attacked by a homeless man because they didn't give him "enough" money

my parents used to give me money to give to them when i was a kid, but i've never pulled money out of my own pocket

it depends , sometimes i do if i have a couple of dollars but i don't really carry change around . if i have a coupon for food i'd share it with them
