There is absolutely no way a level 50 Galvantula can take less than half damage from a level 100 Emboar. With the level difference, Galvantula would go down...no ifs, ands, or buts.

Did you both have your Pokemon set to level 50? If both were at level 50, a Timid (-Att +Spe) Emboar with 0 IVs and 0 EVs in attack would still do more than half.

Emboar - Timid - Level 50 - 0 IVs & 0 EVs in Attack
Galvantula - Impish - Level 50 - 31 IVs & 252 EVs in Defense & HP

Flare Blitz (120 base power) takes away somewhere between 72%-86%. I highly doubt you invested those EVs into an Impish Galvantula because that isn't focusing on its best stats. If Emboar was an in-game Emboar, there would be some Attack EVs there as well. Even still, if this WAS the case, Flare Blitz still took well over half.

Are you sure your Galvantula wasn't level 100 and his Emboar was level 50? If so, then Galvantula's strength can't be based off of it since that wasn't a fair fight.

Anyway, to answer the main question in this thread, no I don't think Electric-types are OP. They're pretty weak defensively and a lot of the pure Electric-types suffer from shallow movepools.

What if you took reflect into question? Water sport? Rain dance?

With Reflect and Rain Dance support both up, then yes. They would have to BOTH be set up though, and the specifications would have to be close to how I put them for Galvantula to barely take any damage. If that was the case, then Galvantula would be sacrificing its two best stats (Speed and SpAtt) and would have a difficult time dealing with other Pokemon. It's situational but possible I guess.

For lv 100 Emboar vs lv 50 Galvantula

0 Atk Emboar Flare Blitz vs. +6 252 HP / 252+ Def Galvantula in Rain through Reflect: 36-43 (20.3 - 24.2%)

0 Atk Emboar Flare Blitz vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Galvantula in Rain through Reflect: 147-174 (83 - 98.3%)

and more realistically...

252+ Atk Emboar Flare Blitz vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Galvantula in Rain: 608-716 (419.3 - 493.7%)

Exactly.

They probably either did level 50 all or Galvantula was the one at level 100.

um this thread????
if anything, steel types are OP

but seriously though, if this isnt applied to competitive, i dont see how you can say any particular type is OP???
especially since you can go through the main story easily with the crappiest pokemon ever.

For the last time, please stop mentioning competitive in your replies everyone.

And it's not possible to go through the main story with the crappiest Pokemon ever. At least not in some areas; you would get stuck.

I do agree though that I don't think a level 50 Galvantula would survive after being hit by a level 100 Emboar's fire type move.

Electric may not be "OP", but it is still the most powerful type as it only has one weakness and hits most types well.

I should probably change the title of this thread so people don't get confused then.

EDIT: There. I changed the title so it makes more sense now. :)

Electric doesn't necessarily need another type that's SE to it. In Pokemon X for the 5th gym, I had a Golett and did just fine. Because so many of them have such shallow movepools, just take a Ground-type with you. Since this is strictly in-game according to the original post, I have never run across any Electric Pokemon used by NPCs with Grass Knot or Surf to take out my Golett/Golurk until I hit the Institute/Maison in which I would only use competitive Pokemon anyway.

Also, keep in mind that the 5th gym had three Pokemon that were Electric and another type. None of them were purely weak to Ground. They had other weaknesses too.

Nearly all of the pure Electric-types in the game are either so frail, so slow, or have shallow move selection that it balances out. In-game, they are no problem. Competitively, they are no problem either because of how common Earthquake is.

I think you have a point. I agree with this now. :)

One could go through the game with six level one Cottonee, if they felt like it. It would be a heck of a hard time, though. For the Magikarp thing, I have actually seen some ridiculous solo runs regarding it... It is official, I am going to go through Pok?mon Black with six level one Cottonee only! Starting after I am done with all my other Nuzlockes!
