Discouraged

Just reading through this and it's so nice to see everyone on these forums is so supportive!

And they're all right, don't let anyone get you down. It's your island, not theirs and as long as you like it, that's all that matters, unless you want/ask for specific feed back on what to improve. Your friend here sound like a real jerk (but I get their your friend so I'm sure they're worth keeping around but this is just not okay), to most people it's like the unspoken code for most players to never dig holes or take peoples items without explicit permission. It's outright rude and disrespectful. That kind of behaviour is not okay. - Like if you visit someone's house irl, do you just pick up/steal their stuff? No, most people would understandably get annoyed and probably kick the person out. To me at least Animal Crossing worlds feel the same and maybe your friend needs to understand this before/if you let them in again. But as many others said Dream Addresses are a good way to show off your island and people can let a nuclear bomb off in your island with no consequence to you. Or maybe next time, ask to visit their Island so you bare no risk to yours and can still be with them in real time. Also I'm not totally sure how it works, but isn't there a 'Best Friend' thing and if you don't give people that role, they can't dig up anything (I think).

I had a similar experience in new leaf when I invited my boyfriend over, who didn't really understand (and I honestly still think doesn't) how decorating games work and he accidently ended up destroying a few of my flowers , they were pretty rare hybrids too that took ages to breed but at least in this situation I completely understood why/how he did this and couldn't be upset at him (he did apologise too once he realised) because most of the games he plays are fighting and running over any scenery because it doesn't mean anything and I guess the way he viewed animal crossing didn't really allow him to see that there were flowers beneath him or that they were important to not run into, he was just trying to run the fastest, most direct way to the location he was trying to get to. Which is fair enough, and if you maybe think your friend is like this or at least doesn't realise or understand how much those flowers / digging those holes meant to you, you need to tell them clearly so they understand, and hopefully will then be nice enough to apologise.

Good luck :lemon:

Have you ever worked super hard on an island, and then invite a friend over who just isn't a fan.

Kinda just dug holes, and made me really sad, stole a few flowers from an animal they didn't like. I worked hard and that disapproval, and how they said that the only thing they liked the most was a certain statue.

It burned. Not exactly a positive reaction, and I'm kinda discouraged to work on it anymore. It's like they didn't even like it.

Anyone who's also discouraged by disapproval?

I'm new, so I don't know where to post this, but I think here.

Who cares what your friend thinks......are they an award winning island designer? Have they renovated the cayman islands?

Everyone is allowed there opinon, same as everyone is allowed to totally ignore that opinion.

Love your island and do what makes you happy and you like, don't let anyone else make you think otherwise, because chances are their lack of positivity is not because your island is not great, it's because they don't know how to appreciate it.

I'm sure it's amazing and if most people visited they'd have a great time and find loads of great things to say...

:) ;) :)

That doesn't sound like a friend. A friend would at least make suggestions and not mess with things that aren't theirs. It's your island, anyway. If they don't like it, too bad.

Sorry you had to experience that... I don't think that that is how a friend should behave.

As other have already said, this is a great community to share your island with. I, personally, have never had a negative experience with this site. That being said, I have been in a similar situation as you with a close friend. I think being discouraged make sense after that, but you have to remember, as long as you are proud of your island that is all that matters!

Try not to think too much about this experience and just keep doing you!

That doesn't sound much like a great friend to me. I've certainly seen things I'm not a fan of on friends' islands but would never say that or actively try to destroy elements of their work like digging up their flowers. That's just plain mean. It's really not in the spirit of the game either. Such a shame!

I say keep doing what makes you happy. At the end of the day it's your island and you can make it however you want. If they want something else they can make their own island however they like. I don't think they'd like it much if they were criticized on their design choices. Keep doing you, but maybe don't invite them again. If they ask to come maybe remove them as a best friend so they can't dig or do so much damage.

It's unfortunate how people can behave sometimes! I hope you know that it's not you or your island that's the problem, it's their attitude. And until that gets rectified I'd keep my distance.

It's so sad what has happened for you. First of all, I do believe on this forum you may find someone you can play with, someone on certain level, someone who will encourage you, guide you - instead of messing with your creation.
As you are beginner, anyone plays with you should understand it, should appreciate it, and help without any unnecessary spoilers.
For example, for now, I have 420+ hours, but at some point I decided to start my island over.
I can see it's unfinished, but I don't really want anyone to mess around and change it, because they have a different vision.
This is main reason, I never playing games online - ACNH is only one exception, but playing only with my GF and I'm not tempted to play with strangers.
Stay strong and hopefully you will be enjoying game again.
I know, there are many players amongst us, who will appreciate your work, you may start submitting your screenshots, share your ideas, and I'm sure you will receive positive feedback.
We are with you.

Your friend sounds like they weren't very thoughtful with their words or actions.

The thing is, your island is for YOU and no one else. I think any island where its clear the person put in a lot of thought and love is great. Who cares if it's not what I would pick?

If you and your animal neighbors are loving their island life, don't let a rude tourist ruin it!

Yikes, that person sounds nasty.

I bet your island is lovely, just keep doing what makes you happy. After all, the point about Animal Crossing is to escape to a place that makes us the happiest. Your friend needs to take a step back because digging holes and stealing flowers is a trashy move.

Everyone has said how I'm feeling so I'm just gonna add this: Set up a visitation and show the people in this forum your island! I bet it will help you feel a lot better about your island! (BONUS: If you love your island, who cares if your "friend" doesn't like it. They don't live there!)

First of all, friends don't do that in other people's towns!! If somebody visits you, the least that person has to do is being polite and respect the host's stuff like flowers, trees, anything on the ground, etc. You ask for things, you don't just take them... But it's better to be careful with the people you let visit your island and establish the rules from the beginning.

Honestly, you don't have to feel discouraged by such rude actions. For sure you've been working hard on making your island awesome 😊 don't let other's tell you otherwise or make you feel bad.
