Certain villagers you can't have as starters?

Oh, my bad, I only had Fuschia (Uchi) from the get-go.
As in the first five villagers I had were Poppy, Kid Cat, Puck, Amelia, and Fuschia. Phil, Vic, and Hamphrey moved in later.

Urgh...so no photo proof that smugs and uchis are possible to get as starters? I've wondered this for a long time. I, like many of you, have reset for a good map dozens upon dozens of times. I have never gotten either a smug or an uchi as a starter. For the first move-in, yes. But never as a starter.

I do wonder if it's possible. Being a natural skeptic I'd like to see real evidence, too. The plural of anecdotes is not evidence. Well, it's not proof, anyway.

I'd love to be able to reset and get a smug or uchi. If it's possible I just may try it.

I actually got Hazel for one of my starters but I didn't really like her. I don't know why it's so hard to believe for some of you guys :(

I understand why some people would like to see proof. If you could prove everything by just saying it, the world would be full of lies.

Probably because they are new personality types and their "exclusivity" makes it hard to believe that they would be given to you as a starter.
It's kind of like saying you were given a basic color palette that included green and most people are given red, blue, yellow, black, and white. (Unrelated, but I wonder why no one ever questioned Ash having a Pikachu as a starter Pokemon. Pikachu isn't the standard; not one person thought "Hm... I think that kid cheated,"? Maybe Pikachu just sucks that much irl, lol)

I'd like to see proof. Not because I don't believe either side, I just have never restarted or reset so I have no personal experience. It would be great to have this question properly answered.

I think the problem is that there are so many fewer Uchi/Smug villagers. You're statistically just so much less likely to see one than a normal or a lazy villager because of it.

I guess our chances were just good. We started with 4 copies. Mine and my 3 oldest kids. My son Caleb started with Kyle and he's a smug. None of the rest of us started with uchi's or smugs. Just Caleb. Although it was VERY strange (I thought) who my kids all started out with. My oldest started out with sprinkles (his fav real life animal is a penguin), my daughter started out with chow (her fav real life animal is the panda). And Caleb started out with a wolf ( his fav 2 animals are wolves and hippos). And he started out with my stitches!!! Who he later gave to me :) none of them reset either!!! I did within an hour because I accidentally put my mayors name in all caps and knew it would drive me nuts.

I think it is just rare, since Smug and Uchi are new.
Octopuses however there is only 3, just a random lucky pick.
My guess is the game is unlikely to generate these numbers of villagers, it's kinda like plot resetting in a way.

I remember seeing a snapshot awhile back someone started off with Marshal, but it might just be my imagination. As well I don't recall anyone obtaining a Smug, Uchi and Octopus villager as a starter until I read this thread.

...funny how Animal Crossing Wikia says this.
Starting Villagers
The starting villagers are the first villagers the player has in their town when they start a new game. The amount of Starting Villagers differs in each game. In Animal Crossing there were 6, in Animal Crossing: Wild World there were 3. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, the amount was reverted to 6. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, the amount of starting villagers is 5; however, there cannot be an uchi or a smug villager as a starting villager.

I've been resetting my cycling town alot and I don't think you can have smug or uchi as a starter. And I'm guessing Nintendo did this since they're the two new personalities but eh I don't see the point of not having them as a starter. It seems like every time I've been doing plot resetting either a smug or uchi shows up so I think that's how it works. But if someone has photo proof of a smug or uchi at the tree ceremony that would good to clarify this up.

I guessing it was a random decision to make them a bit more special, since they are new.

I've seen plenty of people claim they started with a smug or uchi only to realize they misremembered and they were actually an early random move-in. I've never seen anyone actually provide proof in the form of a tree ceremony picture. So I have to believe it's impossible to start with a smug or uchi (not sure about the octopi, since as others have said, there's so few of them it's likely the odds just aren't in their favor). I'd love to be proved wrong, though!

I don't know, if you google image it, one comes up featuring Frita, I'm not sure how fake that is, if it is. I have a really firm belief I started my first game with Hazel, which I believe so firmly because I remember being terrified >.< but I have no proof.

Can you post or link to the picture with Frita?

I've seen that certain villagers can't be starters like the octopi and the smug and uchi personality type villagers. Is this true? It doesn't seem like it would make much sense if it is, lol.

I don't know if it's true. I haven't done that many resettings.

What I tend to do is this:

Focus on Villager Personalities.

The game starts you off in a new town with five individual villagers. Each one belongs to separate Villager Personalities categories.

Day #02 will see a house plot which belongs to an incoming villager. That will come from a category you didn't start out with for your first five villagers. Day #04 and Day #06 will do the same.

Day #03, Day #05, and Day #07 will be the move-in dates.

Example:

Starters
1) Jock
2) Normal
3) Cranky
4) Snooty
5) Smug

Nos. 6 through 8, in chronological order of one's town's cast of villagers will come from separate categories. (The above example would mean to look for a Peppy, a Lazy, and an Uchi.) This is where an "Animal Crossing: New Leaf" player can exert control over specific villagers who would come in to slot numbers 6, 7, and 8. Lots of resetting (with use of a new human); but in some cases you can have some luck. (I did. In my Cycle town, which I'm going to be resetting, I did what I suggest in the following paragraph. It's how I was able to more easily get the Normal cat Lolly.)

Let's say a player, just beginning the game, most badly wants the Normal rhinoceros Merengue. When choosing a town, make sure that none of your town's five starters are from the category of Normal. Then focus on slot numbers 6 through 8 to maneuver getting in Merengue.

This suggestion is the way to handle it, when starting the game, with pursuit of a much-desired villager. You cannot exert control over the first five. You can have some luck. (For example, if you have a Lazy as one of your first five and it happens to be the one you wanted most.) But it is slot numbers 6, 7, and 8 for which you will have the most control when beginning a town.
