Certain villagers you can't have as starters?

I've seen that certain villagers can't be starters like the octopi and the smug and uchi personality type villagers. Is this true? It doesn't seem like it would make much sense if it is, lol.

I've been reading up on it on the Internet but I haven't found a complete answer to it since some people say you can get them and others you can't. But thanks for letting me know you had a smug as a starter, it helps alot for my cycling town.

There isnt limits on who you can and cant start with. Smugs and uchis are rare, but entirely possible.

Maybe because most of the smug and uchi characters are really popular like Marshal and Mira.

I think it just more has to do with them being the new personality types than anything else.

plot resetting for them is easy at first, so i don't really mind

at most the only thing that villager popularity would affect is the game's production when they decide who take take out/bring back



game-wise, it seems pretty clear to me they treat them all on more-or-less the same footing

its only the community that puts actual value on them and makes certain ones harder to get from people than others

you're right, but they've never made a particular personality more difficult to obtain for this reason and i don't see why they would now

I've never heard of anyone having a smug or uchi starter, or an octopus. But then again, there are 8 possible personalities and you only start out with 4 or 5? Three octopodes out of 300+ possible villagers.

Funny thing is, the octipi freak me out and I didn't want Mira at the time so I was like "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO". xD

Then Zucker wouldn't leave it was frustrating as heck.​

I don't believe you can get the octopi or uchis/smugs as part of your original five. I know some people claim otherwise, but I won't be convinced until I see proof.
