I'm curious because of catalog islands. would they work the same through the dreaming thing? if so, that's so more convenient then having to plan to come there.

Unfortunately you can't :( I was wondering the same thing, so I once hopped onto Aika Village where I knew there were a bunch of wrapped Nose Drips lying around which I knew I never bought. So I picked them up and unwrapped then and headed back to my island, only to not find them in the catalogue.

It would have made cataloguing events SO much easier, and I don't see why we shouldnt be able to do it, but alas...

I still haven't checked what would happen if you picked up a DIY and wanted to learn it in the dream state. It's probably not possible.

awww that sucks...
I was hoping you could

They probably thought that would make cataloging too easy and that's why they prevent people from cataloging on dream islands.

The only island where I found diys sitting out, I already knew them. I got the normal message about it. It would be nice if you could learn them, but it probably doesn't stick.

Yeah as far as I know it does not stick.

That was a feature of street pass in new leaf and we only got what was in the house. Which makes sense cause you couldn’t even put furniture outside. It would be really cool if we could catalog from dream islands.

So dreams now can become reality, huh. That's a gravy idea but it will ruin the purpose of online trading.

Because it's a dream lol. It would be nice if we could also learn the DIY's people leave laying around but it would make absolutely no sense.

Are you seriously talking about "logic" and "sense" in a video game where a tanuki in a Hawaiian shirt asks you to pay him 2 mil golden coins to finish your house that he built out of nothing on a deserted island where you can manifest cliffs out of thin air and where your watering can break when you water too many flowers? Lmao

Fact is, Nintendo hates fun and convenience. We're paying the 20 f****** bucks that they're forcing us to pay in order to realistically achieve a full catalog within less than 20 real-life years ANYWAY, so they coulda put that in the dream suite, fullstop! I'm playing a baby toddler game, not Dark Souls, so me getting a green plastic canister should not by any definition be made "hard" for me

I can see where you could make an argument for being able to catalog in dreams- but learning DIYs wouldn't work at all. Think about it- you could set out one copy of the DIY and hundreds of people could potentially learn it. That wouldn't make any sense when DIY recipes are supposed to be one use.

Personally, I don't mind not being able to catalog things. I never expected to be able to- it was the same in ACNL. Dream suites are for sight-seeing and getting inspiration, not for getting items.

Yikes. That's all I can say to this lol. It wasn't that way in New Leaf so I don't see why you'd be able to catalog games in dreams in this game either. You getting so angry that you can't catalog in dreams is just beyond me. I never said anything about "logic" just that you don't keep any items that you would pick up in dreams, you don't learn any DIY recipes, you don't keep any bugs or fish, so what sense would cataloging items make?

personally, i wouldnt mind being able to learn DIYs in dreams as long as you forget them when you wake up (for the reasons serabee said). i think you could potentially make really cool 'exploration' type maps knowing that the people touring in dreams are pretty much guaranteed to know the recipes they need to explore in the dream, as long as you set the diy recipes out!
i just think people are really creative and it could be cool :)

but cataloguing is different.... i dont think we should be able to add items to our catalogue, bc like yeah that would ruin trading a little bit. although i do think it would make it a little less frustrating to catalogue items like the color variants of the summer items, which honestly are exclusive for no reason.... people were trading plenty without them LMAO its really just frustrating to only have one color, especially for people that dont have NSO, prefer not to seek trades online, or dont really have any friends irl that play animal crossing that they could trade with. so i could see being able to catalogue buyable + exclusive seasonal items like those via dreams. not that theyd actually do it though, lol

Even if the game itself doesn't usually follow "logic" or "sense," it still adheres to law of physics and other things you see in reality. Otherwise, I will request the ability to fly in my dreams as well and not walk. :p

At the end of day, our "god" of this world is Nintendo. We abide by their rules.

Yes, I am frustrated towards Nintendo for making the stupidest decisions concerning their games (and being downright predatory in others 🙃) for years on end now because it only seems to be getting worse, that doesn't just apply to something minor like cataloguing in a dream though, but to everything (and I also like to swear for literally no reason, you can see it as aggressive but I don't) And I'm also allowed to feel that way, so I will never change my mind on anything like this. My first post wasn't angry at all either, but then you hit me with what I read as a very passive-aggressive "it makes no sense stupid lol", so I thought I should clarify as to why I personally find that a stupid excuse.

Anyway, I literally do not care enough and I merely wanted to answer OPs question so that's that. Won't respond to any more replies on my post.

It also seems like people aren't aware that both visiting an island and visiting a dream requires NSO on BOTH parties ends. Which makes it essentially the same thing in the games eyes. But they specifically put a lock on it concerning dreams... because it's illogical? Nah, I refuse to believe that.
