Can anyone make green leaf piles look good?

So I have a kind of rustic woodland look going on for a lot of my island, and thought the green leaf pile DIY recipes would look great mixed in with my trees, weeds and flowers.

However, every time I try to place a few to give an area a bit more 'texture', I'm always disappointed with the effect and end up removing them.

If anyone uses them in a way which looks good, would you mind sharing any tips / advice / photos, please?

Thanks in advance!

Same issue here.

I have a small nature trail on my island and I imagined that leaf piles would look amazing, only to be disappointed. It feels out of place.

So far, I haven't seen any island that makes good use of it. Most I've seen use custom scattered leaves instead. And that's what I did.

I tried to play around with the leaf piles but my issue with them is that they look so flat, it's like the leaves are compressed which make it look awkward. I would also be curious to see as to how others have made them work! :)

I've used only one as decoration but to be sure Im not sure I've made it "work" I want to try adding a couple more to the same area to see if it'll make it fit in better. Right now it's just kind of awkward?

I was thinking scattered leaves patterns under and a tile away would be okay but haven't found a leaf pattern that matches the color of the scattered leaf pile yet

I've used some on my island in a forested area. My thoughts are that they work best when placed randomly and with flowers, trees, or natural objects placed around. I'm at work, so I'm not looking at my island right now, but I think I have some country fencing placed nearby too which I think looks good with it.

I used one in my nature themed picnic area, it looks ok with flowers and trees around it.

If they overlap two kinds of ground textures it helps to feel more layered, and close to other objects not on their own so there is a balance. These both help the focus to not just be on the leaf pile itself! :D

I think the trick to the pile of leaves is to make sure there's a lot of weeds around in the same area. You could also position them half behind a tree/bushes/hedges... this really helps blend them into the environment. I think it's also helpful if you have more than one around the area. I have three sitting around in the forested area beside my house:

That's a good idea - thanks! I'll try playing around with that a bit.

There are some great suggestions / examples in here - thank you!

Keep them coming if there's anything else to add!

My issue with them is they're so.. perfectly square? It doesn't look realistic. I usually put it where it's partially obstructed from view so you can't see how square it is lol.

I think that's a big part of my issue, too. Just make them circular! Or give us the ability to customise their shape.

I like the idea posted above of laying another pattern underneath / around them to help them blend in, though.

Anyone got any decent leaf ground patterns they wouldn't mind sharing!?

I put a pile in my lazy's (Beau) yard next to his tree to showcase that he's too lazy to throw them in a trash bag. Otherwise, I agree that it's hard to make them look nice and natural.

Some of the items I struggle with are the garden rock, tall garden rock and flat garden rock. I'd love to see what people do with those.

I have a bamboo rock garden on my island. the ground there is completely dark dirt. The whole area has the grey of the rocks mixed with the green of the bamboo (and bamboo set) on a dark brown background. I used the green leaf piles (and garden rock) in here too. and I think it gives a nice contrast with the background brown
