Yep, mine have many times while I was trying to get other non-amiibo villagers to move.

Good to know they do ask to move! In New Leaf, it was my understanding that they COULD ask to move just like regular villagers, but that the odds had been significantly reduced, so I was holding off on scanning any villagers into my current town.
Yes, I've been holding off as well. Getting permanently stuck with Amiibo villagers in NL was a major problem, as I didn't have enough other good amiibo to replace them with if I got sick of them.
