Campsite has to change

It is gacha in the way that you spend a currency (miles) for a chance at a random character. The fact you don't spend real money is irrelevant since you can play gacha games for free and obtain currency (for example Fire Emblem Heroes) and they don't stop being gacha for that. They could have made it so certain personalities appeared more if you lacked them like the campsite, but instead they completely randomized it (a poor job too) and it often ends up frustrating people looking for their favourites. Nintendo obviously also advertises cuter characters more so they are counting on that and while amiibo are out of stock now but no doubt they will reprint them and many people will turn to those. It's not all coincidence and goodwill on Nintendo's part and I get it, it's their business.

I see, I assumed gacha was being used in a negative connotation, like to denote a money grab, not just describing the spending of in game currency for a randomized reward.

I feel being made to spend in game currency is very different than spending real money, because without something you really want/ need to spend currency on, what is the point of having a currency system at all in the game?

I understand your frustration, but as I probably in the future will want to not have a cranky villager on my island (just not my favorite type) and want to have multiple of other types, I am about to be grateful for the mystery islands being more purely randomized than the campsite.

I don’t think it is goodwill or ill since they are a corporation and corporations are not capable of compassion (people are). But I also think people read more maliciousness/ greed into Nintendo’s actions than is realistic. They want to make money, of course, but there are far worse money grabbing practices out there.

I do think that on this forum we assume a certain style of gameplay is the most common when I don’t know if that is realistic. Among my real life friends and family who play the game, no one is particularly invested in things like ‘dreamie hunting’ mostly they go to an island (or forget and take a random move in) and invite a villager they think is cute (and they seem to find most of them cute). They might want a certain villager or dislike some, but it isn’t a vital thing for them. So I also think what some see as a huge flaw and/ or meanness is actually just a feature most players don’t have strong feelings about.

As I have said, I like the randomness (and have not read anything indicating it is poorly implemented) and would be disappointed to lose it. So I have my own bias.

Again, this isn’t meant as a defense of Nintendo. Bottom line is, as a for profit company they don’t care about your preferences or mine And never will. Like you say, it’s their business, not a goodwill mission.

I do hope that they will re-release the amiibo cards soon, as they have already done in japan. The prices on cards will become less exorbitant and I think it will help ease the frustration across different styles of gameplay. Plus, that’s the only way for them to actually cash in on this whole demand they have created, so it seems likely they will.

Sorry the mystery island experience has not been fun for you, it must be very tiring to be forced to use game time on something you don’t enjoy.

Besides my first camper, I've only moved in 2 other villagers. The first was Cyd who took a while to pick the villager I wanted him to replace but was easy to convince (his card game answer was always heart). Last week though, I had June who took f o r e v e r to both accept and pick the correct villager. I agree there should be some sort of change to make things less frustrating (though the feeling of satisfaction after finally getting them does feel nice).

I would like the option to get rid of the campsite. It's useful for forcing out a villager you don't like (if you reset) but I don't love the look of it so I'd rather not have to work around it. I'd feel differently if visitors were a regular occurrence; it would be nice to meet new characters without NMTs, and I wouldn't mind the ultimatum they give you for moving in because it's interesting to see if you get lucky, and if you didn't there'd be another chance soon.

I've generally had very good luck with the campsite (Bunnie, Cranston, and O'Hare all agreed to move in quickly, and asked to replace a villager I want gone on the first or second try), but I had a HORRIBLE time getting Sherb to move in. I had to reset well over 30 times over the course of about two hours because he absolutely refused to ask the right villager to move out. And sometimes I would have to play games with him for 10+ minutes before he'd even ask to move in at all!

I honestly thought I was going to lose my mind. They need to make it so that they ask to move in after three games maximum, or something.

I’ve gotten the couple I wanted to move in but seriously...what a process...

The card games are pure luck based and not enjoyable in anyway. I’m guessing they want us to feel like we had to work at swaying them to move in but it really feels more like a punishment (especially when they decide who to kick out as well, unless we reset).

I don’t understand why we can’t just craft them something like the amiibos and be on our way?

Yes it's so annoying. The only campers I ever invited to move in each took me like 30 mins of resetting to get them to pick the right villager to move out.

I got Stitches from the campsite, so I am pretty pleased about it! I had an empty plot so I didn't have to move anyone out to get him.

I like the concept, though I agree that perhaps the frequency of the visitors could increase, or at least the difficulty of the game should decrease. I would have liked to have seen them play more games with you. In a dream situation, I'd love to see them wandering the island just as a regular tourist does, and then you could interact and speak to them for the day!

Yeah I agree, it's not a fun process. I got Mira in my campsite today and she's a villager I wouldn't mind having on my island... But those card games put me off even trying. I just can't be bothered with all of that haha

It's just Nintendo trying to prevent time travellers (what they and a lot of people see as cheaters) to farm for good villagers and get people to buy Amiibos. Nintendo has tried their best to nerf TTing with the new game as much as possible

Both islands had a camper on Sunday. So far all the villagers have been repeats from my ACNL. I have all the cards and have used them to boot voids from my other island.

I guess we can simply agree to disagree on some things. And on a final note I wasn't forced to do anything. If I hunted for my villagers it was by my own choice and reasons and my criticism doesn't mean that there wasn't enjoyment to be had at times. Just as enjoyment itself doesn't mean something is without its flaws.

Yes!! I’ve had Skye move in only from the campsite. She was so hard to get! And she always wanted to kick out a wanted villager! I was so mad about it that once I got her I didn’t really care for her. Resentment lol

Omg I thought I was the only one that would be salty asf after the villager say they finally gonna move into my island. Like YOU MADE ME GO THROUGH ALL THIS TROUBLE- I don’t even know if I want you anymore. -_-

Glad it hasn’t been entirely negative for you. Yes, I’m happy to agree to disagree. I appreciate being able to have a little conversation with you so I could understand where you are coming from more.

I got Sherb, Dobie and Marshal from the campsite, and have campers every other week... maybe I'm lucky in that department.
The resetting so they'll choose the right villager to boot is a pain though, so yes, make it so we can choose from the start.

I haven't really bothered with the campsite because I use amiibo cards. I will say that it's annoying having to convince them to come 3 times in order to invite them. NL did it right with just having to invite them once. No hassle. No headaches. If it ain't broken don't fix it.

It is still nice to be able to do that though and not have to wonder what random will pop in or waiting forever for a visitor. The only campsite visitor I invited was the first smug you are forced to choose anyway. That is really annoying.

Recently I’ve actually been having an abundance of campsite visitors, and have had 2 move in in the last 2 weeks. I guess with the highest chance of (20%?) a day it’ll be quite easy to go long stretches without seeing anyone, or to sometimes end up like me and end up having at least one visitor a week for multiple weeks in a row.

I really don’t like the move in process with the campsite either it’s just such a tedious pain to have to spend all that time mashing b/a to get through the same dialogue over and over so that you can be given a chance at a card game you’ll probable lose, and then even if you win they’ll probably choose someone you want, and then you have to close the game and start again.... over and over and over.

I get that Nintendo just sort of wants players to go with the flow, and they probably don’t intend for people to spend loads of time trying for the card game dialogue and they certainly don’t intend for people to quit before auto save to get further chances at the camper choosing exactly the right move out villager, but obviously that’s how people are going to play if they really want a visitor to move in. We shouldn’t have to jump through so many hoops for this.

Campers are fairly infrequent, and it’s not like we get to choose who shows up, so if we get lucky and have a visitor we want, I wish we coukd just easily ask them to move in and choose who they replace amiibo style.
