And this is why our public schools are complete crap. Why else do you think almost 1/4 of American ADULTS are illiterate? Not to mention high school graduates who can't read their own freakin' diplomas...

Public schools are pretty screwed up. But I turned out perfectly fine.

Yeah, it does depend on the student to some extent... but for the most part, the "teachers" in public schools are terrible. And they complain about low wages!

i'll have to dissagree with you there, I think it's all about your work ethic. teachers can't be blamed if you choose not to listen, or do an assignment.

You have to realize that not everyone can rely exclusively on their work ethic. Pardon me for my immodesty, but I have a great work ethic (or so I'm told), but if I don't understand something and need someone to explain it to me, then the teacher will be held responsible if s/he cannot teach properly.

Public School was terrible for me. The kids were killing each other (one kid almost got suffocated) they brought alcohol to school, etc. But what did they do? Send them away for 6 weeks, then let them back in. The teachers gave the kids too much leighway and they could never help me with math because my math teacher didn't know how to do math.
