I wouldn't visit it because it would probably provoke a lot of emotion inside of me. It is so sad, we shouldn't glorify such a location as to make a film about it... There's nothing wrong in visiting the place, though, to pay your respects... At least, that's what I think. It's so sad.

I'm just annoyed that they'd take such a serious place and use it for a horror movie plot. Leave it be if you're just going to use it as a marketing scheme and not educate people.

I have actually visited Aokigahara. Honestly, it is not scary. It was very peaceful there. I didn't feel any sense of paranormal presense or any of that. But, while I believe ghosts can exist, I've never felt any ghost-like presence. Ever. And I've been to some extremely creepy places where people have been murders, bad things have happened, etc in my life (just because I'm interested in that sort of thing).

However, I will admit to seeing macabre things in certain areas of Aokigahara. Meaning I did find a few places of what looked like a person's leftover stuff after committing suicide. There was no body there. The people who patrol the forest make sure to get rid of any bodies. But you could see what looked like a rope where a person hung themselves, a tent and some camping things. etc.

Edit: Oh, I will say that it is very possible to get very lost in Aokigahara. Because of the geography in the area (it's right by Mount Fuji and is dense forest) you can lose connectivity to the cell network with your cellphone. If you wander off the trails, you could get lost and have no way to contact anyone. That's probably pretty scary to people, and part of what makes it creepy to some.

i feel like if it wasnt known for being a suicidal hotspot then not as many people would have committed suicides there... what are the motives for the people that killed themselves there?

I've always wanted to visit Japan because of cool things like this. The country boasts such unusual and fantastical landmarks you can't find anywhere else. I would go, but only with a friend or someone who knew the area well. Wouldn't want to get lost in a place called 'suicide forest'.
