I’ve had the game since release and i’ve been playing since then. But when I unlocked terraforming, I quickly found out that the river mouths can’t be changed and I think that’s really gonna bother me especially with the places that they’re in. Now I also hate my island name, and I wish Nintendo gave us the opinion to change it at any time lol. But i’ve worked so hard to get my dreamies and items, that I don’t want to lose my progress.

Anyone else tempted?

I'm mostly tempted by my Island name. Idk what you mean about the river mouths. People have made a 1 layer town with no rivers via terraforming.

My friend is restarting tho (she doesnt know why), I see the appeal, this is what happens with games that are given rich content after everyone has already been playing for a while.

Tempted everyday, but then I look at all my stuff, bells, all the terraforming I've already done, villagers I have and I just can't. I'm... trapped.

When I first started, I didn't put much thought into my starter map cuz I was like "Pssh, I can just terraform stuff so I'll be okay!" I literally prioritized getting cherries as my national fruit over anything else lol. Then, later down the line I'm hit with the realization that I can't do anything with my beaches/river mouths etc and I felt crushed.

I was tempted.
But I am glad I did not.
I did a very bad job w/ terraforming at the beginning, also used all my 8 inclines in such a terrible way (4 for the museum)...
But i was already 250 hrs in so...I did not want to reset.
I took a break from the game, made a map online, and started with one chunck per day.
Took it very slowly (im still doing it), but I am very happy now.
Terraforming even became relaxing, and not stressing as before.

By any chance did you use happy island designer? i’ve been trying to get that to work for me for ages, but everytime i go to put my map down on the editor, it never appears..

Sorry to be butting in on the conversation but I think you’d have to load your map into the app and then trace it over the existing map first.

did you click on load map or upload screenshot? the latter is what you want.

I started from a pre-existent map. This pre-existent map wasn't even based on my starter island, so I had to think how to fix things around river mouths and also the plaza.
I am not really good at organizing space, also wanted something really wild, not city-like.
I found this map and while I was working on it I changed something there and there.
I also waited for bridges and inclines this time, I waited the final moment "ok this area is finished, I can now build the incline/bridge".
Did I want a perfectly aliged plaza? Yes
Did I probably want a different secret beach? Yes
Did I want different rivers mouths? Yes
But if i stucked with these ideas id never go ahead with the game. I'd still be there thinking about what I don't like and such.
I like how it's coming now, I don't even care anymore about rivers and plaza.

I feel like, for me at least, resetting would be a massive chore in this game because of the ~2 week tutorial at the beginning. I'm sure I'll reset my game at some point, but I think it'll be at least 18 months or 2 years before I do so.

I clicked upload screenshot!

OOO, i had no idea that this is what you had to do! bc i’d load it in the app and I was so confused as to why the two maps were ontop of eachother! Honestly, i’m still not sure what you mean by tracing, though. Do I just use the tools in the sidebar to trace?

I just wanna reset because terraforming is so stressful LMAO.
But I love my islanders too much to do it.

It's too late for me, I already did. But i'm pretty glad I did. I hated the way the Resident Services was located. Severely limiting my island design choices. Now it's only a matter of time travelling to get my dream villagers and resume back to real time so I can grind money by selling turnips and start decorating.

i’ve had passing thoughts about resetting but i’ve come so far and unlocked so much that i could never bring myself to reset aha

I reset about a week into the game, because I realized I would be un happy looking at certain things everyday. It was the right choice for me. If you don’t want to lose all your stuff you can have someone hang onto it on there island while you restart yours.

Yes, just use the tools to trace over the parts of your islands. :)

Reseting for the "perfect" island just seems like a dangerous trap to get into. I respect and admire people who do this and have a clear vision, but for me, I just go into the game with the knowledge that not everything will be perfect, but that's okay. Sometimes creativity can come from things you weren't expecting.

I have thought about resetting, but it would have been a bad idea for me. Around the same time I joined TBT, I was thinking about it. I had seen islands that had perfectly aligned airports/residential services and I wanted that. At the time, I didn't have a clear vision for my island though, so I decided to instead throw caution to the wind and just start terraforming. I started by making a three leveled "mountain" with a fountain on top and lots of snapping turtles surrounding it. Just something silly, but I decided I liked it well enough, so I went on terraform another larger, more natural shaped cliff with waterfalls and trees connected to the third level river that was originally on my island. At this time, my Nook's Cranny was at the front of my island just as you exit the airport. It was convenient, but an eye sore. I decided to move Nook's Cranny towards the back of the island on the previously terraformed spot. With all the trees, flowers, and waterfalls (pre-upgraded) Nook's Cranny looked like a small mom-and-pop-shop that had been located there for generations. This was the turning point for me. This was when I knew my island was going in the direction I wanted. There was just one problem: The entrance. Moving Nook's Cranny left a huge empty spot between my airport and residential services. As I said before; I had originally wanted the residential services and airport to line up, but I decided to try to hide it instead. I created an entrance "mountain" with a waterfall at approximately the same space Nook's Cranny used to occupy. From there, I planted trees, flowers and weeds, as well as piles of leaves and a wishing well for a fairytale wilderness look.

I now love my entrance and I realized if I had a perfectly aligned airport/residential services, it wouldn't have worked with my theme.

I recently started a second island on a different Switch, and while it made me miss the laid back experience of the prologue, it made me appreciate my main island even more.

And the way I feel personally, if I were to have someone hold my villagers, it just wouldn't be the same starting from a new island. I feel like I would miss the connection. But that's just me. Lots of people have restarted and have great experiences with it.

If you are thinking seriously about resetting, why not try experimenting with terraforming your island first? You may fall in love with it. Even if it doesn't change your mind on resetting, at least that way you can have some practice/ideas for when you start your new island.

I couldn't even begin to think of a reset, given how Tom Nook basically begs you not to do it and warns you that he won't remember you. It would make me feel like as if I'm downright murdering everyone. This is probably weird but hey. lol

Hating your town layout enough to reset it is all in your mind. You can make almost any design work with any layout. Concentrate less on forcing your current idea onto your island and more on making a layout around the way your island already is.

Pretend that everyone has the same island layout, if you had no other options, how would you go about your design? The freedom you have to reset is also what is holding you back from being happy. You will never be happy unless you give in and accept the fact that life isn't perfect, and perfection isn't always the ideal. Beautiful things can happen in any form. There exists multiple hundreds if not thousands of people out there with your current island layout who made 5 stars and beautiful islands.

I'd only reset if you enjoy starting from scratch and going through the motions of progression again.
