Anyone else not have dreamies? How do you pick who stays and who goes?

I have villagers I like and don't like, and try to have at least one of each personality, but I don't really have villagers I "must" have or a final idea of who I want on the island.

I'm thinking of keeping villagers until I get their photo (unless I *really* don't like them), then bumping them out within a few weeks or so with amiibo if they don't move out naturally. What are your plans for moving villagers in/out if you don't have specific ones in mind?

i have so many dreamies and amiibos of all of them (except new villagers of course) so i'm constantly inviting them and kicking them out again
i've gone through so many villagers and only 3 have been on my island longer than a week lol

I do have a list of villagers that i want to keep/get, but your plan sounds good! I don't have amiibo yet so i am forced to wait for the ones i dont want to keep to move out naturally.

I'm the same way! There are so many villagers I like, and I've never played any of the games going for a "final" roster of villagers. Everyone who moves in will one day move out- it's the Animal Crossing way. :)

On previous games, I let the game pick who was coming into my village for me (pretty fun on New Leaf with the void and StreetPass!), but New Horizons gives you more control. I normally do Nook Mystery Tours anyway, but when finding new villagers, I just make a decision in ten tours or less. I finally had my first villager (Hazel, one of my starters) move out late last week. I just kind of go with the flow as far as moving villagers out. No special system, just if it feels right, I'll let them go.

I'm kind of the same. I just posted in another thread regarding dreamies that I don't have a solid 10 permanent villagers. I have 38 that I really really am fond of, so I kind of cycle through those instead.

I only have 3 dreamies right now (two of them are current residents) and I have no real plans for the other 7 slots. I like to try to balance the personalities but apart from that I let people move in/out pretty freely.

i do have dreamies, but i like 95% of the villagers in the game so im just kinda waiting for my dreamies to stumble into my town!!! i just let villagers come and go as they please until the ones i like are here, and then do my best to get them to stay

I only have a few dreamies. I fill in the rest by finding a personality I don't yet have, and then finding one who's design I like.

I only have/had one dreamie and that was Goldie. She’s been in my town since Wild World and I love her v much. Other than that, I don’t really have a set of villagers that I want on my island. I just kinda go with the flow.

I have dreamies for my town, cause I'm doing an all-cat theme, but I have all of their amiibos so I'm not necessarily in a rush to move them all in, so I've just been enjoying other villagers in my town for the time being. Idk your town is your town, so whoever you want in it is up to you. Nothing wrong with having dream villagers that stay forever, and nothing wrong with letting people come and go all the time, especially in this game where house plots are fixed. The appeal in NL was so you didn't have to plot reset new villagers all the time and worry about someone ruining your town.

Im just trying to get their photos and posters, so I would always remember them, even when they leave. If it was possible I would even have 100 Villagers on my Island, because I like a lot of them.

Otherwise I try to switch through them or at least some of them, before I use all of my Amiibos. Villager Hunting is just so fun. Almost like opening a Booster Pack of Cards and looking what you get.

I have 3 or 4 permanent villagers. All the other ones can come and go as they please, would like to get everyone's picture sooner or later!

how do you get their photos?? ive seen conflicting information on it :Oc

My dreamie list is only 3 villagers so everyone else is free to come and go as they like. I get really attached to my villagers so I'd prefer to get their pictures first before they leave but not a priority

Im sure you will get it at some time, when your friendship level is high enough. For now I have not achieved that goal, because I let my starter villagers go way to early. Sprinkle is probably the longest I have now. But yeah it was more like that i didn’t liked the Tutorial House. Let’s see If I will get a Photo in the Future. It could take a while.

I doubt it’s much more different than in New Leaf, where you talked to your Villagers and they gave your their Photo.

i have certain dreamies i'd like to experience once (like zucker, for example!), but i don't want to specifically go searching for them nowadays, haha. if zucker asked to move out one day, i'd probably let him. for me, dreamies are more of a "i'd like to experience them at least once" feeling sometimes. some of them i'd love to keep forever, some i'd let move on.
on the other hand, there are some villagers that have randomly moved in that i've absolutely fallen in love with, like merry and kidd, who i could never let go.
in short, i just want to experience as many villagers as possible, but i still have dreamies!

This tho! Some of my favorite villagers have been total randos that moved in out of the blue! I totally get filling your town with dreamies but I’d miss the feeling of getting to know new folks.

I don't! Towards the end of my 2nd NL town, I had a pretty strict list and clear vision and did a lot of trading/cycling for them.
I'm not feeling that now. Maybe I'm older, wiser, more tired and just not wanting to create more work for myself? Dreamie hunting is a full time job and I have one of those. I'm happy to see who wanders into my campsite and NMT islands and adopt whoever seems like fun to hang out with.
Though, Bob is my special buddy. He's been in every town I've had since GCN. I have his amiibo card, ready and waiting for when the time is right.
