Anyone else getting very annoyed with the Fishing Tourney?

This one is way more frustrating than the bug off. Fish spend so long nibbling, swimming back and forth to try and bite your rod that I have missed out on a fish with 30 seconds left on the clock because of how long this takes only to catch it the second after the timer is up. I think we should have been allowed an extra minute, more points per fish, or at the very least make the point count as you press A instead of when you catch it because that second it takes to fly up in the air and land in my hand has been the difference between a final point and no point. I'm just not having fun with the Tourney personally all the more to you if you are enjoying it but it's annoyances stacked on top of each other that is making it hard for me to want to try for gold or get all the prizes

If you don’t have bait, I don’t think it’s possible to get large numbers, unless you have some amazing RNG luck. Plus my fish don’t spawn as reliably as they used to a couple updates back when I knew where they’d pop up and could plan my three minute run-through better. But I managed to get 4 or more every round, which was good enough for me. But no, not bug off numbers, that’s for sure!

I'm over the Fishing Tourney. The time and how random it is for a fish to bite is what makes this tedious for me. I'm going to have to get the gold, though, so this feels more like a chore.

Since points accumulate and carryover for the trophies (but not, I don’t think, for the swag), I only played a few rounds, since I’ll have two more opps to get to gold since I’ll want to compete all four tourneys to get the Nook Miles achievement

Yeah, if you weren’t here for the fishing tournament in April but you were for the bug-off it is a shock. If NSO is available to you, try to find a group on here to do some trips. The difference is staggering. Bait also helps to an extent if you can’t go online.

As for my opinion, overall the bug off was easier to cheese by yourself but the prizes for the fishing tournament are WAY better.

You didn't do any time traveling, did you?

Nope, I’ve never TTed!
Not that I have a problem with time traveling. I just thought I'd ask because I was looking to see if points carried over and people were saying they time traveled back and forth. To have a response from someone who doesn't time travel does give me some hope, because I don't really care for the Fishing Tourney. It's too tedious for my liking.

I haven't even played the tourney yet and I'm already annoyed... all my villagers were outside the entire day, so I missed out on a bunch of DIYs!

I do TT, and from what I can tell...

It DOES seem they carry over. I didn't check directly, but when I went to redeem points, I had more points than I expected. Also, the prizes are the same for each one, it seems. Which I didn't mind since I needed more of them!

My points definitely carried over from April. I did two rounds of like 4-5 fish and already had 100+ points according to CJ (but not for swag— though I’d cashed most of those out already last time)

The game expects you to do them over the course of the year since you need 300 points for Gold. A good chunk of us finished this task back in April. Many of us were quite shocked at the effort required.

Fishing Tournament is definitely much harder than the Big-Off. For the tournament, you'll want to visit a friend or have friend visit and do the event with multiple people for the bonus points. You can stock up on bait before hand and it helps, but even with bait, you will end up with less points than you did for the Bug-Off.

Just keep at it.

Yes, I miss when the fishing tourney was about the size of it. Also, miss the the old prizes.

Also to be fair, Nintendo also didn't anticipate for the world to shut down thus giving everyone nearly unlimited time to blow through the game

With fishing bait it's easier. Just run to the beach, throw some bait and as fast as possible use the rod. 99% of the time it lands right before the fish. It starts nibbling or bites right away.

Every round will let you end with 8 to 10 (or when lucky 11 or 12) fish. Around 30 stacks of bait and you got the gold trophy. ;) But if it's too much just continue later this year with the next tourney.

I hate fish now. Was very annoying completing this. Just cast an itty bit off and you have to recast to get it to actually bite. started on my dock and was glad that it got me my last 3 marlins to get a model next time. Then tried the coast and fish food and found out u can get 10-13 points per round that way, but you need alot of fish food, eneded up haveing to do 7 points per round on the last 3/4 of getting to 300. So glad only need to win the gold once, I think

Do you get the different variants of things like the fish print and the fishing rod stand when you compete it a second time, or was I right to basically go "nah, can't really be bothered with this" this time?
