Anyone else getting very annoyed with the Fishing Tourney?

Do you get the different variants of things like the fish print and the fishing rod stand when you compete it a second time, or was I right to basically go "nah, can't really be bothered with this" this time?

Those items can all be customized to get their variants; you don't have to wait for C.J. to give them to you. The only benefit to getting more of those items is, well, having more of those items.

With fishing bait it's easier. Just run to the beach, throw some bait and as fast as possible use the rod. 99% of the time it lands right before the fish. It starts nibbling or bites right away.

This is the exact method I use. I can cast it 100% of the time right in front of them, you have to find that sweet spot where the shore is quite short so that the fish spawns just far enough that casting the rod right after you close out of the inventory lands in their sight. My favorite spot is right next to the dock of the airport. Been getting at least 10-12 fish every time.

With multiple fish prints you can make different designs at the worktable :) Also with the stands and drying rack.

Haha yes I fished at the exact same spot today. It works perfectly :D Only time it didn't work was when the switch was too slow loading the fish. Then the fish was swimming just too close and I had to throw new bait. But this happened just a few times.

Yes, I miss when the fishing tourney was about the size of it. Also, miss the the old prizes.
Size isn't everything. ;)

I wasn't able to do much last time, because I worked that day. I was on my own today and still got all the prizes. I only hit bronze, but I've got a better idea of what to expect, so I should get gold by the 4th event.

I love the items, too, finding them a lot easier to decorate with than in NL (same for the Bug-Off).

...dammit, I thought it was locked.

I've desperately got to sell my spares of stuff in exchange for spares of other stuff.

Also, this means also half-assing the Bug-Off has worked out well for me, because now I can get the silver trophy this month and the gold trophy in August!

I thought it was cute and since I slept through the last one (Got that Rona sleep schedule going hard back in April) I was actually able to get the prizes although it's about murdered my hands

I was supremely annoyed all day with the time it took for a fish to attach and be caught. It was thoroughly unreasonable. I swear it took half a minute to catch just one sometimes. And they'd try for it, back away, nibble again, swim away, come back, go away, until I thought I was just going to give up. Even with using bait that didn't change.

I felt like this tournament felt more like a series of chores than a fun event. It didn't have the same feeling as the bug off. My friends all agree that it was more difficult and we're not really 100% into doing it so thoroughly again!

i'm not crazy about this new version of the tourney either. I also don't like that Chip makes you do a tourney challenge before you can sell him fish when he comes on other days. It never made sense to me that he does that when Flick doesn't. I haven't done the tourney today, probably tt back tomorrow. I got all but one item the last time and the bronze trophy. I'd like to get the rest knocked out this time around. That way the next 2 times I only have to do it once to get the achievement and that's it. Also the bait thing sounds good but crafting bait sucks. If I could make it all at once or multiple at once I wouldn't mind it but one at a time is a pain and a waste of time.

I feel like points should have been awarded based on which species you catch. It makes no difference whether you catch a sea bass or some rarer fish. A downgrade from previous games for sure. Since points carry over I think they intended for people to do one or two runs per tournament or something and call it a day. Everyone has different play styles though, I don't know why they narrowed it so much.

I like the Bug Off more as well even though it's the same point system.

not a fan either of the fish tourney. idk if this happens with everyone but as soon as the timer starts all the fish disappear and the first round i just managed to get four fish before time ran out. and then when it was over and I was walking back to the plaza there were fish everywhere! anyway I did the fish bait trick the next round and got more but I cbf digging up and crafting a bunch of bait

It was the least fun I've had yet, and yeah, the time it takes a fish to nibble, usually the max five bites before a strike, a whole minute has gone by.

Also, why no fish or bug sizes/records anymore?
And absolutely no information about the fish or bugs in the critterpedia.

It feels lazy. Unfinished.

A whole minute? Just throw your rod in front of the fish. Most fish will see it directly and start nibbling. It takes max 20 seconds. Only some like the more expensive fish or the ribbon eel can be a little annoying if it's not directly in their line of sight. Last one are slow swimmers so it takes little longer. But a minute? No :)

If you throw it just in front 3 á 4 fish per minute must be easy.

30 stacks. You can do it in 1 day, but just start at monday and make 6 stacks per day so it looks less time consuming :) you got enough when the tourney starts ^_^

Or indeed buy them from someone else. Aromatisse was selling a lot here today for a few tbt. And some other people too for what I've seen between the fishing :P

First you have to run to the nearest water, then find a fish, then by the time you catch it, yes. A minute or more, and btw, 20 seconds is almost half a minute, and you only get three.

The bug off is easier but the fish off prizes are better.
This is my 2nd fishing tournament and fishing without bait was easier. 1st tournament without bait I got 1 to 3 fish in 3 minutes. This time around fish were spawning more and was able to catch 5 to 7 fish with no bait. Player 2 got 100 points in one hour.
