I find time limits very stressful in general, but what I REALLY hate is (again) the tedious, unnecessary dialogue. CJ/Flick tells you how much you caught, gives you points. You talk to them again, they tell you how much you caught again, you sell your stuff. Talk to them a third time, compete, they tell you what you've already been doing all day. All of this with a ton of flavor text that just wastes time, after every single 3 minute run where you spent half the time looking for something to catch (or if it's the fishing tourney, getting to a body of water. At least bugs spawn everywhere.)
Anyone else getting very annoyed with the Fishing Tourney?

I still enjoy it kind of, but I stopped after I reached 300 points for Gold. Fishing tourney was really fun the first time because I did it with friends but I think everyone got what they needed by now, so I did this one alone. My island layout is terrible for these kind of events so I spent the hour before the tourney just crafting a ton of bait. Then I farmed one spot on the beach until I got the points/items I needed. I love the event music but I agree with some people that the format of these tournaments get boring real fast. I prefer the big fish style as well! And of course, the RNG for prizes is always bad for me. I got a ton of fish wands which shouldn't be a thing. At least we can decorate with multiple furniture items if we have an idea for it, but what are we gonna do with 5 fish wands? lol

I had a more positive outlook on the Fishing Tourney. Exclusively for yesterday, Sea Bass and Black Bass were my friends. XD
I would normally get a little bit annoyed when fishing them up, but, yesterday, they were very helpful.

Yeah I keep getting the fish shirt over and over lol - at some point thought it was bugged but I guess just bad RNG

I did it with 80 fish bait total and actually had fun yesterday.. For the most part I was at other people's islands so I got all the items pretty quickly and a lot of repeats. The point system when you play alone is pretty bad
The fishing tourney is definitely harder to get high scores on but I do like the prizes a lot more, and I find fishing in general to be more fun than hunting for bugs. Maybe it's the light gambling aspect that you get when you're catching shadows? Like it's probably another horse mackerel but it could be a barreleye. With bugs, if you're catching a stinkbug, that's exactly what you're going to get. No excitement in that.
But yeah, the dialogue is definitely a bit much. I really can't see myself grinding this one for the trophies, so I guess I'll just participate a few times whenever it comes around.
I do think the disadvantage of doing it alone is a bit too harsh. Five more points just for not being on your own island? That really adds up with the lower scores in this one...

me too! fishing in the ocean is much more efficient in the tourney
I powered through and got all the medals for the fishing tourney and bug off on the last events. So when this one rolled around I did one 3 minute match to get the Nook Mile reward and that was enough for me. The furniture remains the same. There is no incentive to replay it. NL and the other games had a better event all around and better prizes.
Hell even the trophies in the other games looked better. Even when I was well into NL I still played the tourney if I was around for it. The way it was set up, how it was handled, how they had a special ceremony to show the community was actually there, made the event feel more personal, rewarding, and overall fun.
This? This feels like a half-butt mobile app. I don't think I've ever been this disappointed in an AC game.

i strongly recommend playing all tournaments with friends!!! my friends and i did the fishing tourney and the bug off together and they were so much more enjoyable that way, plus they add your points together so it’s faster to get everything. we got all the prizes for the fishing tourney and all except the silver and gold trophies for the bug off because we got bored of that one quicker (harder to anticipate where bugs will appear vs fish).
so yes long story short find a friend and spend a few hours and it will be much easier and more fun!

Honestly its pretty similar to the bug off in my mind. It can take just as long to find a bug as it does to find a fish. Plus for fishing you can use bait. Waiting for the fish to bite makes it more realistic and fun to me too.
UGH yeah I feel the same way. I didn't used to participate in the events like the fishing tourney or the bug off because I was just kind of lazy with it, and I wasn't very motivated by the trophies. but those bug off and fishing tourney items are CUTE af and I'm obsessed with so many of them that I try so hard now. but it's definitely a pain.
