Besides the obvious weeds and villagers possibly wondering where you are, are there any repercussions this time around for not playing the game for a while?

I kinda burnt myself out and want to take a break for a little bit but I dont want anybody to move away. That's really the big fear I have since I have a few dreamies and would hate to lose them.

Villagers can't move away if you aren't there to advise them, so if you need a little break feel free! You might wanna pop in for a few minutes each day to see if Redd or a camper is in, though.

The biggest negative is that you’re not playing!
But seriously, no need to worry about anyone moving away. They won’t do so without asking you first.

i got the official companion guide back when i played this game more religiously but never opened it until after i came back from my break. apparently, if u talk to ur villagers everyday u build up a lil bonus, kinda like with the nook miles points, and if u skip a day that bonus goes away. so if uve been going after villager pictures ur progress might reset a lil bit, but i didnt read anything about ur actual friendship level declining from not playing every day.

Thanks for the info! That’s very helpful.

After not playing for just 3 days, my villagers are asking me if I'm ignoring them, giving them the silent treatment, etc. Not huge, but it made me a little sad, but I get burnout often so it was bound to happen eventually.

edit: didn't realize you said 'besides villagers wondering where you are' my bad ^^;

Seems like we can’t win. We talk to the more than once and they imply we’re bugging them. We don’t play for a couple days and it’s seemingly the end of our friendships.

Lol, this is so accurate and hilarious!

If you are worried about villagers moving away while you are away, then i dont think that can happen. I tted quite a bit and nobody moved out, and i also saw a pic someone posted here of them tting years ahead without someone suddenly leaving. I have been feeling the same as you recently so i stopped playing some days ago and i feel much more excited to play now!

not really. NH is pretty forgiving about long absences. your villagers will be sad when you first talk to them again, but that's pretty much it

I don't think there are any negative drawbacks to playing!
I think it's great that you're giving yourself a break. The game is getting unnecessarily fast paced with all the hype surrounding it.
I feel like I have to catch up to other players, but I always remind myself to go at my own speed, but in the long run, it's your happiness that counts :)

If you go without playing for 1 month, you unlock the bedhead hairstyle

I took a week's break and actually am enjoying the game more for it! I think I have a better relationship with the game now - a little pop in to the stores and plaza is enough, I don't need to hunt fossils or accomplish anything or talk to every single villager if I don't want to. I felt a lot of pressure to keep moving forward when I was fizzled out of energy, ideas, and having a busy time at work.

So, you might miss a visiting NPC or some items. I choose to think since you didn't boot up the game, nothing technically spawned that day, right? And the villagers say something to you once and immediately get over it. Nothing is lost. And maybe you'll have some new hybrids or weeding to do when you get back!

It's nice to know that villagers do not move away on their own unlike in New Leaf (Biskit, you broke my heart 😭 )
I'm kinda worried about that since I'll be back to my normal working hours and days next week so playing time will be much less.
Thanks to the iron wall lamp trick I already got many pictures from my villagers.
And currently I feel like playing other games too especially puzzle games again, lol

the main things i can think of are weeds growing and depending on how long you go without playing, cockroaches appearing in your house and your villager having bedhead ;;
