Edit: My question has been answered, thanks for the responses.

My second newest villager, Mac, moved into my town a few weeks ago. When I first met him, he said he moved out from another player's town. Now that I have a good relationship with Mac, he sometimes talks about the mayor from his old town. The thing is, I thought villagers only move to other player's towns when you do a trade with them. (I only briefly read about how to trade villagers, so I don't know if that is the only way to trade villagers) The player that Mac talks about is only in my Happy Home Showcase. I Streetpassed the player once, but that's it. Has this happened to anybody else?

I've gotten Wendy from a town I only visited once. And when I visited, she had been gone for a while, so I never met her. I think that if you have any sort of connection to a town- whether from Streetpass or its your friends town- you can possibly get their older villagers.

That's completely normal. This is called "the void." When a villager enters the void, that means that they are gone from your town, but still on the cartridge/SD card. When you enter a town with 8-9 villagers, then the villager from the void will be set to move into THAT town. This also works with streetpass. Also, I got Mac from streetpass too ^^ Such a cutie.

unfortunately streetpassing with anyone can let one of their voided villagers move into your town :c

Whenever you Streetpass someone/visit another persons town/they visit your town, there is a chance that a villager that recently moved out of their town can move into yours, if the villager wasn't adopted/sold/traded the day they were in boxes, and were left to go to the void.
