Just noticing some things I wanted to bring to peoples attention. Stuff to look out for if you are interesting in giving away or selling villagers to people who actually want them.

I've had noticed a lot of new account. Accounts with hardly any activity on them, little to no ratings, and a lot are actually blocked from people being able to see. Some of these accounts are ones I noticed seem to be cycling villagers (popular new villagers) over and over again. So they will get a popular new villager (either online or the islands), sell it, then buy the villager again here, then sell it again on discord, because they are getting higher prices on discord. You can see this trail from comments on threads and negative feedback people are leaving on their profiles.

So I am just saying you may want to keep an eye on:
- Can you see someone profile.
- Can you see feedback, and is any of it negative.
- Look at their past threads to see if they already had a villager once before and sold it.

At the end of the day. I know we all are allowed to play the game they way they want. I know it's hard to tell sometimes if someone actually really wants a villager or not. But if you actually care that people who really want the villagers are getting them, please looking into these things when doing giveaways, selling, trading, or auctions. I would rather give something to someone who truly wants it.

Thanks for reading.

thank you for posting this. this is why i refuse to trade with anyone that has no ratings or has negative ratings, even if it’s only one. you can never be too careful but i’m definitely gonna check out people’s profiles/past threads now, just to be on the safe side lol

I wonder if there should be some kind of hard requirement here in order to even post on the New Neighbor Network. Something like having an account that is at least one week old or maybe a certain amount of feedback given. Been seeing more than a few troll posts from these new accounts.

I totally understand there being a lot of new faces on this forum. There are so many people starting their Animal Crossing journeys with NH and may not be familiar with the usual trading etiquette here.

I've been thinking that too. Or maybe a post minimum (50? 100?) just so that these new people can kind of integrate themselves into our community first before jumping right into the "money making"

I totally agree.

If people are looking to make bells and not wanting to do anything else here, they should just use Discord IMO. It’s what it was made for.

They'll never get ratings if people never trade with them.

Not a bad idea really. Something needs to be done. I get we all want our dreamies, all willing to exchange/pay to a certain point. It's going a little far. I am just so tired of seeing greedy people and not people who actually wanna play the game. Not to mention its harder to trust people and so many more are scamming. It kinda ruins the community for me. I think it's why Nintendo is being more strict on what they will and will not allow anymore. We're lucky they haven't stopped the use of being able to exchange NMT to be honest. I am sure this isn't exactly what they had it mind for the game when the created it.

I've definitely seen some very suspicious accounts lately. There's one in particular that keeps spamming "news", by creating topics with links to another sites.

And then, there's the issue with people who are creating accounts on TBT to use the community for profit, like you said.

i know but i personally will not trade with them as a precaution. it’s very easy to be taken advantage of or scammed, especially if they’re new and/or have no ratings. it’s one thing if i’ve seen them around before and have a general idea of who they are but if i haven’t, i don’t really wanna take that chance of having a negative encounter with someone.

I have noticed what feels like a vast majority of Raymond sellers have been brand new accounts where their only posts are in that thread... sort of worrisome. I wonder how many actually end up completing the deal...

I know I like to preach to play the game how you want... But come on, man... That's just low...

I've noticed that too, accounts with no profile picture and almost no posts selling top villagers. I even had one offer me a popular villager free in my dms and I lied and said no just because it seemed shady. I think there should be an account age rule about trading.

Which is true. Someone will trade with them, but not everyone has to. But that is why they need to start with trading smaller things. I am willing to take changes on small things. But I am not doing a trade for a villager (especially if its a pricey trade) with someone new who has a 0% rating or even a 50% rating. Not a chance. Haha.

I noticed that too. I was on discord and within like a 10-15 time span apparently like 6 different people AT least were just giving him away. I highly doubt that. I replied to someone with SECONDS and they didn't even send back so much as a "sorry, he is gone".

Like with any community, public or private, it's our individual responsibility to practice discernment. Obviously, the majority of us are good, or have the best interest of others at heart, but there will always be the bad to keep reality what it is.

aren’t villager trades pretty much safe? I thought that as long as everything could be traded in one trip, there wasn’t really a risk since you could just keep an eye on them and close your game if they did anything dodgy.

Well some people ask you to pay first. If you pay first and end session, they can kick you out. Or someone said they paid, went to talk to a villager, wasn's moving, then the person kicked them out.

Thanks for posting this because I thought I was crazy and not many people have mentioned it, has me a bit concerned about villager trading especially with villagers such as Judy and Raymond going for very high prices!

I think it's funny the second I saw this thread I noticed 2 or 3 posts in this forum about selling villagers from people who literally just joined.
Crazy.
You'd think they'd at least see the neighbor network

Although it won't help much if they're already a scammer, you can check the map app on the nookphone to see if they legitimately have the villager. I saw someone try to get scammed (they knew they were but wanted to just confirm by visiting) and it was obvious the person didn't even have the villager on the map.

The problem is that someone can scam you by kicking you off the island before fully trading the villager (letting you talk to them).

The first thing I take into consideration is their sign up date. Followed by their activity in previous threads, reviews and the context within said review. Is said poster always trying to look for something rather than giving back to the community.

Bottom line: do they wheel and deal how I roll?

So, yeah peeps who signed up in 2020 definitely raise an eyebrow when it comes to dealing with giveaway and trades. It's just the nature of how the hype has created a certain persona of those recent sign ups. Reputation of the 2020 signup dates has preceded them (regarding to trades/free giveaways).
