Animal Crossing Twitter's next move...

I have no idea who this youtube guy is, and I'm not sure whether this thread will be locked/moved, but there's a lot of "all political viewpoints are valid" sentiment going on in this thread, and I just wanna point out that that's literally not actually the case. Support for facism and the oppression of minorities is not ever a "valid" political viewpoint to hold, because those beliefs are quite literally founded on believing that other people are less than human.

You can argue all you want about mob mentality on the internet and I may well agree with you depending on what you're pointing to, but arguing that "everyone's reasoning is valid" perpetuates systems of oppression -- regardless of whether you actively support those systems or if you're a centrist neoliberal who simply "doesn't want to take sides". When it comes to the oppression of human beings, there is no "neutral" viewpoint, and it's quite frankly disturbing that people believe otherwise.

Edit: Looked into the youtube guy. Seems he's quite obviously a literal fascist with a history of spouting off racism and transphobia. There's a lot of evidence of this in the replies to the tweet someone else posted here about him, it's not in question that he's said these things and meant them, and has been doing so for a long time. People would be right to call out his public statements of bigotry anyway, but because he makes Animal Crossing videos (which are likely watched by a lot of young children), there's an additional prerogative to make people aware of the views this guy holds.

Also his read on the game that it "focuses on the pros of capitalism" is a bad take, but that's a subject for another thread!

What’s with some takes in this thread? Are you people serious?

We shouldn’t dislike someone for their beliefs? Um, excuse you? If those beliefs are going against the rights of people then you should most definitely call them out. I don’t know this person, but if he’s the Trump supporter y’all are claiming he is, and you’re all fine w that, I’d reconsider my values and moral stand. Trump is a misogynistic, racist, homophobic piece of ****, and so are his supporters. Get the hell out of here with “let’s respect all opinions”. Lmao.

You are absolutey correct, but we can't compare an Animal Crossing content creator to a political figure. All the guy does is say offensive things outside of his YouTube channel. I hate people who are bigots and I'm not straight, but he's just some guy with 208k who just sucks as a person.

Regardless of medium or space, a person who stands to platform fascist ideology is a fascist. All fascists are bad and deserve hate.

A lot of people in this thread act as if anything but liberalism is evil. I don't think that's fair, especially when most people aren't even that invested in their political views to begin with. I'm on the left spectrum (moreso than democrats) and it seems like defending an ******* from a hate mob is something unthinkable for someone like me.

I don't think you should hate on someone just because someone else decided they're bad. He's not even working in a political field.

I'm sorry if my comments made it sound like I like the guy because I don't. I don't like people who meme and support Trump, but I also don't have a lot of experience with the politics and lives of Americans.

I went on to defend the guy in the name of common courtesy, but I feel like I'm fencesitting when all that happens is that his Twitter got temporarily suspended. He baited people and people gave the same energy back to him.

I just really don't think the guy is worth the energy of having a political debate over him. I doubt he even cares about most Trump politics. But he supported him back in 2018 and he still supports him now and I agree that this is unjustifiable. Especially now. I'll save my energy defending someone who actually deserves it.

With all due respect, I'm not comparing him to a political figure. I'm commenting on the inherently political statements he himself has made publicly. I pointed this out in the edit to my original post but this guy makes Animal Crossing videos that are probably watched mostly by children, and it's important not to discount that people (especially young people) can be heavily influenced by the things the content creators they watch say and do. Just because someone doesn't work in a "political field" doesn't mean people don't listen to their political views, or that they shouldn't be subject to criticism for those views.

Also just for the record here, I'm not a liberal. I am a socialist leftist :)

Saying “hey there are worse entities you could focus on” is literally whataboutism. By detracting the focus of the conversation of outing this person as a fascist, with the hate they deserve, you aid them. Stop.

You are right, just influencing one person in the wrong direction could lead to something terrible. I think it's fine as long as your YouTube is apolitical, but he is a public figure who shares these things on Twitter and Instagram and these things are connected to him being a public figure.

I head onto Twitter this morning.. scroll down to the Animal Crossing section, and I see someone send out a tweet with the sole purpose of demeaning The Bit Block by attacking them for their political opinion.

Who do you think you guys are? You have absolutely no right to do this to someone. I don't share Bit Block's political viewpoint, but does that mean that we should go to Twitter and try to shame him online for it?

I'm disgusted.

If he’s as much of a Trump supporters as they claim he is, they sure as hell should do it. Have you no shame?

I don't particularly like Josh, but this is why I can't use twitter without wanting to throw myself infront of a train, cancel culture, mob mentality, echo chambers, social "justice" it's the worst userbase in existence, somehow people become the worst versions of themselves the second the little blue bird shows up.

I don't know who Bit Block is, but you pretty much described Twitter as a whole. I have an account, and I had to change my Trending section to a language I don't understand because I'm tired of seeing the political aspect of it showing up. I didn't make a Twitter account for politics. I made it in hopes of finding other people who play the same video games like me. I've had to get away from Twitter. It's too stressful going on there now. And for those who say, "Well these video games have politics in them," all I have to say to that is those games have their own politics pertaining to the games story. Anyway, sorry for rambling on. 😩

The thing is, a lot of people are not unaffected by politics. They can’t filter out politics, like you do, because politics dictate their way of life, their quality of life, wellbeing and even their lives.
