I had my first town for about a year and I wanted to start over with a new town, but I couldn't bear to delete my first town so I bought a second cartridge in early June.

Now I have two towns and I couldn't bear the thought of losing either of them!

I read so many posts here about people resetting their towns over and over again. What is the reason for this? How could anyone spend so much time building a town and then just discard all their progress?

Is it a case of "the grass is always greener"? Do people see other towns and then get dissatisfied with their own? I played Wild World and City Folk and I never heard of this phenomenon before I started playing New Leaf. There are over 250 pages of posts on the town resetting thread!!!

I feel like I'm in a minority because I have no desire at all to reset my towns.

I deleted my first town because I had already lost so many dreamies and was tired of cycling. I was close to ending my third and final 16 cycle when I lost Stitches, so I just reset.
I didn't really want to, but I like my new town a little bit more than my old one. I'm gradually getting more and more of my old villagers back, so it's basically like first town 2.0

I'm in the same boat as you. I can't stand to reset, so I'll probably buy another copy soon. There's just sooo much work I've put into this town, and even though I think about resetting all the time, I just couldn't!!

I've never reset my town, mostly because I've worked on it for so long and I like it a lot.

I have never reset and probably never will. I know my town isn't perfect to my own standards and there are a few things I regret (few villagers moving, building placements, and not exactly the best map) but I've made it my home. Even after visiting amazing towns that I could only wish to build, I haven't had the will to restart and do everything all over again.

I wouldn't reset my town for the world. Yes, I could get a wider map, plot reset all my villagers, etc, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I'm of the mindset of fixing things that are broken, learning to love things for their flaws, and not throwing them away.

I haven't reset but I felt tempted to do so once I loss Stitches in a tragic newbie TT accident. What kept me to keep the game was Francine and all I've done in town with her.
I don't really see myself resetting my town ever now. I have all the villagers I wanted and just now starting to make the village 'pretty'. Well as pretty as I can once I get Kabuki to spew out the Cranky PWP's. >->

Never reset my game before. I only have one copy, got it on release day, and I don't have any plans to reset anytime soon.

I restarted a few times in the original game but never did in CF (had the town for 4 years, still do have it) and I don't ever plan to for NL. I've done too much.

I really like resetting my town. I like the struggle of building up a great town, befriending new villagers, collecting items, laying down paths, and experiencing all of it all over again. If I really like my old town, I can always visit its dream address. The biggest reason that I see for people restarting their towns, though, is because they think they chose a horrible map, or they hate where they chose to put the mayor's house. I am, however, trying not to restart for a year, to see how far I can come with it, within a year.

I got the game on the day it came out, and then reset maybe a few days later. I don't remember why, maybe I just didn't like the setup. But considering it took me 7 months for someone to actually post about their Scoot moving out instead of silently erasing him, I don't think I'll ever reset my town again. Or the second one, I have a lot of valuable villagers in it.

Same. This is the kind of game that I want to play with this kind of mindset. I haven't reset since I got the game last year either. You're definitely not alone!

These are just my two cents, but I guess that NL in particular is conducive to resetting. For one thing, the Dream Suite is a thing, so people can see other towns easily, even towns from players in Japan who got the game first and spent an extra few months making beautiful towns. Even when you first get the game, you're easily exposed to all these towns that had hours of work put into them, and you end up wanting to do the same, and it's pretty easy to get discouraged if you feel like your map is working against you.

Also, since Rover gives you several maps, it's easier to pick out a layout you like, whereas in other games, you'd have to wait until you actually got in town. Also, the people who played WW and CF as kids are now teenagers and adults, who may see the game as serious business and end up playing it differently than when they were younger since they have a better understanding of how to make a town look nice and really want to do so.

I could never reset my main town. I've worked so hard getting all of my hybrids and pwps and villagers where I want them...I probably don't have the best map (four ponds and my beach seems pretty small) but I've made it work and love it all the same. In my second town, I reset once (because I named the town Jupiter and neglected to name the mayor after the largest Galilean moon...) but I had just started and didn't lose anything. Even now that it's just a cycling town, I already almost have Nook's Emporium and that right there is more progress than I'd want to lose. I don't know what the future holds for Jupiter, though.

I reset usually because I get sick of my town name or map. In the case of my previous town, I restarted because I hated where I placed a lot of my permanent PWPs. The caf? was up in the top right corner out of the way, the police station I built thinking that you could take items you find on the floor to it and have them sent to the right owner, only to find out that it doesn't work like that, so I didn't want my police station anymore because it was useless to me. I also restarted because of my town name and that I used my real name for my mayor, but later decided I'd rather use an alias.

I've read ridiculous reasons for people resetting their towns like they don't like their grass pattern or they have peaches and wanted cherries. I read these and think, OMG! Seriously????

I read a post that said the poster spent over a week!!!! resetting to get the "perfect" map and then a few days later decided their perfect map wasn't perfect after all - there was a rock in a bad place or something equally ridiculous - then they started resetting again!!! Holy Shep!!!

no. I've never reset my town. I even picked the first map. It was exactly what I wanted the first time. :D

I reset my first town about 1 month in because I knew the layout of my town was going to kill me.

Totally worth it.

Yeah, I didn't even know there was different grass patterns, until I joined here. I think that's just a bit too extreme. I'll reset for a good map, then feel bad that I reset for multiple reasons. So, I reset again and pick one of the maps and stick with it. I did restart a ridiculous amount of times, before I finally did that. I feel much happier with a town, that I didn't waste time resetting for, only to feel undeserving of it.

I have never reset my town. Personally, I think it would be boring doing everything again.
Resetting towns ruins the fun and I really love the layout of my town :)
