Remember back in the day, on our Gamecubes and GBAs? Then the nice little DS came out. Then that really cool Wii was Wii-leased to the public? Now look where we are. 3DS, Wii U, this new "NX" thing to be revealed with more info eventually. Doesn't this scare you how fast gaming technology is moving? I see all over on reddit and other forums with topics like "I just bought X and now X is out."

I don't know about you but I think Nintendo can slow down just a bit. Even it has been since 2012 I had my 3DS I still am not ready for the next generation of Nintendo handhelds. I just got my Wii U in November of last year too, so I am definitely NOT ready for what ever is coming next.

Okay well you probably can calm down because they've already talked about a bunch of times how the WiiU is their focus for years to come and they just came out with the New 3DS. Why has that been so suddenly forgotten? Another 3DS with years of exclusive games to come. When they mentioned the development of the WiiU, nobody had such a meltdown over new systems.
It's also a little funny to watch people freak out in news article comments because they begged for a WiiU successor and whined the 3DS is aging, now we may have one of the two (or both) in the next decade, now everyone wants it to slow down.

I think this freak out might have been because of my lack of sleep and when I don't sleep I think about everything too much. But still I feel like it's all going by so fast.

Probably because that's what technology is??

As long as it's a good and enjoyable system I dont care how little or how long they take to make it..

I actually am beginning to get worried about the next gen gaming in general. I don't find the Xbox One or PS4 to be a big step toward the future. I only bought the XB1 since I owned a 360 and wanted the exclusive games. I don't know much about the NX, but I do know the Wii U was only released a little bit over 2 years ago. They can't possibly expect to abandon it since they've made so many sales from Mario Kart 8 and Smash. It hasn't even been out that long.

No, that doesn't freak me out. Those releases seem pretty evenly spaced anyway, so unless you feel the need to have the latest in every other console and handheld, it's not a big deal.

I think a big issue console gaming companies are facing is the meteoric rise of mobile gaming. Now people aren't as interested in throwing down a bunch of money on consoles and games when they can play cheaper and more convenient games on their phones.

Combine that with the lack of a noticeable leap for all consoles this generation as compared with Xbox to 360 or PS2 to PS3 and it makes for an interesting time in the gaming industry. Also when you consider the terrible launches and dlc issues of so many newer gen games and it's no wonder companies are constantly discussing new avenues to get their gaming revenue from.

I wouldn't necessarily be worried but I would just be aware that nothing, especially in technology, stays the same. Product life cycles change and what worked 10 or 20 years ago, may not work today. Phones release on a yearly basis. Apps are easier than ever to create. It's such a competitive environment, that companies are going to do whatever it takes to compete or they'll be gone.

They're not going to abandon it, though. Why would they announce a new console to replace the current one when they have yet to release some of their biggest titles? Not to mention that it's only been out since 2012. Nintendo's consoles always have at least a five-year gap in between.

Seriously guys, the NX is not going to replace the Wii U because it's too young, and it's not going to replace the 3DS because Nintendo obviously still sees potential in it, especially since they released an updated version that will have exclusives. The only place this kind of fear and eventual misinformation comes from is people misinterpreting Iwata's words.

Iwata named the 3DS, Wii U and NX alongside each other. The NX will, again, likely be a system with a focus on the subscription-based service that Nintendo is constructing along with DeNA.

The only thing we know for sure is dying is the brains of the gaming journalists that decide to report the Wii U's death as a fact based on a single mention of a system that we know ****all about.

The only console generation that's ever made me think "wow, that's a huge change!" was from the SNES to N64, where obviously 3D was a big deal and totally different from what the SNES offered us (even the '3D' games on SNES were relics compared to true 3D). Every other console generation seems more like a logical step forward in technology. Not that I wasn't excited for new consoles, I just wasn't blown away like I was with the N64 and proper 3D.

I'm not too bothered about the announcement of the 'NX' either. The Gamecube was announced to be in development a long time before it was release (at least 2 years), as was the Wii and the Wii U probably was as well. With the NX being announced now, I expect it to have a late 2017 release based on the past consoles.

The fact that last generation consoles lasted 8/9 years probably doesn't help either. People got used to a long life cycle for consoles since we've not had to upgrade for almost a decade, which is almost unheard of considering every other console lifespan has been around 5 years.
There's a hell lot of people from last gen where their first console was the 360/PS3/Wii. Even if they've played the older consoles, they've still not lived through a next gen transition before. They probably thought the PS3 had another 5 years left in it.

Nintendo aren't releasing things faster, last generation was just abnormally long and we got used to it.

everyONE PANIC THEYRE GOING TO RETIRE THE WIIU AND 3DS ON THE SAME DAY AND STOP SELLING ALL THE GAMES AND CLOSE THE ESHOP.

No, they are NOT, you uncultured hack.

Nintendo will not permanently be bought by Apple (more like making a few games that might flop big time [even going on the So Bad, It's Horrible subpage of video games] because they haven't made iPhone games before).

I don't have any reason to worry. I still have a big backlog of old games to finish, buy, and start.

I won't be worried until there's something shown at E3. And, we know for sure that new Zelda will be on the Wii U, and as it'll be delayed until probably 2016, and gives another definite year of life. That said, E3 hasn't happened yet this year...

I'm actually wondering whether or not the Wii U will get two proper Zelda titles (Wind Waker HD or Hyrule Warriors don't count).

So far there's been 2 main series Zelda games on every home console since the N64 (yes, I'm counting Twilight Princess for both Wii and GC). I'm hoping that the Wii U will live long enough to see a second game, or at least like the Gamecube have one in production towards the end of its life (Twilight Princess).

I don't think it actually will see another Zelda game, though it's something I like to think could happen, especially in regards to the Wii U's life.

Nintendo's coming about many changes in its business, so the only thing I'm scared of are hiccups (which have already happened with amiibo). As far as NX, I wouldn't expect whatever it is to be released for another few years; you can't release a console without games, and you can't make a game for a console without a few years of knowing its 'wares.

I just don't know why they announced the NX so soon. I haven't even bought a Wii U yet and I probably won't until Animal Crossing or Zelda comes out on it. Which sucks because that means the Wii U probably only has like 2 years left. It all feels so rushed.
