Andre-Francois Raffray A lawyer from France Thought he made the deal of a lifetime.
In 1965 He signed a contract Giving Jeanne Calment $500 a month for life--on the condition that he would get her house when she died. Believing Calment's days were numbered, Andre (47) figured he would soon own a house for very little money. Raffray waited and waited for Celment to die. Ten years passed ... twenty....thirty...and Celmet was still going strong! In February 1996, She celebrated her 121st Birthday, making her the oldest known living person in the world. Ten months later Raffray Died at the age of 77. Before his death, he said "We all make bad deals in life. This was mine." He paid Celment more then 180,000 for a house worth no more then 60,000--a house he never got to own.
