I'd be too paranoid to put them in my island. Though I think they look nice and wish Nintendo would release them officially someday, since people clearly want them.

I agree with most of the people who have commented. They look really pretty, but I would hate to put them on my island. Hacked items are no joke, and I would hate put all of this hard work into my main island and have it ruined by hacked items! My cousin would probably shake them anyway because he has no self-control, so that would be a bummer as well. I would be too scared!! They just don't seem worth it to me. Nintendo should take notes tho, they do look really cool! I wonder if we could find like a "comet" that has a glowing spot in the ground, just like the money trees! It could have a zodiac fragment in it and we could bury the star fragments in them to get the trees. (I got carried away eheh, sorry about that! just an idea)

They're pretty. I can understand the appeal I suppose. They're not my aesthetic though, so I would never get one of my own -- not only because of that, but because I just don't feel comfortable doing that to my game. I hacked my ACNL game pretty hard and it took away all of the fun out of it. Not criticizing those who like that sort of thing, but for me personally it's just not worth it.

They're pretty, no doubt. But hacked items(money trees in this case) are still hacked items, no matter how pretty they are.

I don't really see the harm in them as long as the people who have them aren't actively trading them and the people who choose to place them on their islands are aware of the general potential risks of putting hacked things on your island. Like most people on this thread, I wouldn't put one on my island, but as far as other islands go, I don't really care as long as it isn't interfering with other save files and that people just generally know what they're doing.
