Rap, Hip Hop and R&B. I made a topic like this a while back.

Also why do people hate Rap?

I used to dislike most rap until I heard Rehab by Lecrae. That album is un-freaking-believable. If you haven't heard it, you really should go download it. You won't regret it.

Rock and some metal. I like bands like Led Zeppelin, The Who, Van Halen, all them. I absolutely HATE rap (with the exception of Toby Mac). The reason why I do is because it's pretty much just talking to a beat with no melody in it. It's just noise really. The thing I like about Toby Mac is the fact he has melodies in his songs, so I can listen to them without a problem.

I don't like rap because to me, it was way better back in the 90's/80's. (I'm more of an 80's guy when it comes to music) Rappers like Lil' Wayne, Kanye West, Eminem, Drake are getting a lot of attention. Punk and Metal are like dead right now. Sure the metal and rock bands are coming out with big hits, but hardly anyone listens to it. All rap is about drugs, sex, abuse, etc. And I know it's their thing, but it doesn't have a purpose. At all.

Hate the artists sure but it's the Genre itself that you should be liking. Artists like J. Cole and Eminem rap about things that go on in their life, their lyrics actually make sense. Lil Wayne, Kanye and Drake are the ones who talk about Money, drugs, sex etc but they're still successful. It's the stereotypes that give rap a bad name ;(

Because almost all of it is about sex, drugs, money, or some other stupid crap.

No offense.

That's true, a lot of people have been saying the new Eminem is better and raps about life. J. Cole I never heard of him too much. Probably why most people would prefer rock because most rock bands write songs about what good memories they had, bad times they had, or someone who was about to be successful but died or gave up. You know, stuff like that. It all makes sense to me. And like I said, Lil Wayne and Kayne West just write about drugs, and pop singers like Justin Bieber (hate that kid so much) and Meily Cyrus just write about how good their life is.

Well they don't write a song called "Drugs Yummy" or "Sex tasty" or something like that.
It's just their lyrics which say it, I mean look at this Birdman song:

See what I mean?
But sometimes, Wayne can talk about things that he's experience like in Prom Queen:

Oh but this new song by Eminem basically goes where I'm coming from:

That's true I've always followed that stereotype, but I guess next time I hear rap by Eminem or someone else I'll focus more on the lyrics than the stereotype.

Although it a little tricky to know what they're saying most of the time :P

Other, I guess. Indie (independent).

Major record companies, in my opinion, are just in it for the money. They only destroy and screw with undeveloped artists. Plenty of the "successful" artists do not write and make most of their music, and they sound good to you, but don't mean what their actually saying.

I'm more into independently labeled artists, because their sound is raw and not overproduced. They are able to make the music they want to make.

I don't like Rap because there is no melody or tune.

Good music has a catchy tune.
