It may not be a very good game, but some little kids are bound to like it, no matter how bad it is to most gamers. Nintendo just wants there to be content for everyone. =p

When I was a little kid they made good games for us, like AC, Pikmin, or Pokemon.

Of course there was, and there always will be, but they weren't as prevalent.

It's because there are many more gamers nowadays. More gamers, more games.
