the most i've spent on singular amiibo cards is like 3 dollars, if it was a villager i really wanted (and there are only 1 or 2 of those) i'd pay $5-10 tops
no. i just buy the NFC stickers of them for 2$, but if i wanted a new villager with no amiibo i'd either grind islands or just wait for prices to go down.
I probably wouldn't, but I can understand the appeal.
If I did, I think $10 would be my absolute limit, and I couldn't see myself spending more than that. Honestly though, I'd feel weird about it because I would assume that would go to a private seller and not Nintendo. I think I would rather support the company so that they know "Hey, there's a demand for this! Maybe we should consider creating other merchandise."
I'd like to get a few amiibo packs if and when they come back into circulation.... more to show my love for the franchise than to necessarily go after dreamies.
I would also at least considerperhaps paying for DLC to a small extent. Maybe five dollars to be able to obtain a few extra villager slots, if that were an option. I think that kind of pay to play content could be reasonable since it doesn't necessarily effect the economy of the game.
I am totally against it. I think it's toxic and poisonous to the community to set these standards. There are over 400+ villagers. Get to know some more.
Big Money? No. But I'm not concerned with finding official amiibo. Some money? Yep. I've purchased fan-made Amiibo coins for villagers that I really love to save me the stress of having to trade for them or finding them organically. I like having the option to let them move out if I want to try other villagers but if I miss them or want them back, I can easily scan them back in and have them again. I also would prefer to support a small artist/business on etsy than some scalper for an official amiibo card when the coins are honestly much cooler and easier to store. I don't judge people who purchase amiibo, in game items, villagers, NMT, whatever with real money. Sometimes paying $2 for a set of furniture is easier than trying to trade online for it. Doesn't effect my life at all.
Some of the prices on eBay are insane! I was watching the listings for amiibos of my dreamies for a while, and I ended up buying super cute $15 amiibo keychains for my 3 most expensive villagers. The others I wanted were more in the $5 neighborhood. Playing the mystery island roulette for dreamies really stresses me out, and this way I’ll have these guys for future games too. Besides, I’ve got to save up my in game currency for Audie!
Would I buy an amiibo card of the villagers I wanted? Yes, that seems reasonable to me, unless the asking price is close to and over $100 then no. Would I use real life money to buy a villager online? Absolutely not! There are far better uses for my money than a digital animal. Ya know your basic needs, food, water and shelter.
i bought a bunch of individual amiibo cards for new leaf and the most expensive one was about $20 USD (marshal). i've recently given a lot of them away though, since i'm kind of over the idea of dreamies. i kept a few that i really love, but otherwise i was happy to give other people their dreamies so they didn't have to spend real $ on them.
Yep! Coco and Octavian are my top two dreamies and I bought both of their Amiibos. Didn't feel like waiting on RNG from islands, and to be honest, didn't have a thorough understanding of how the game worked when I picked them up. Grabbed 6 or 7 others that I liked the look of that were cheap, but Coco and Octo were each around $30. Also bought Melba for my mom, because she was her fave from some past AC game.
At the current inflated prices, no. I gathered a majority of my amiibo cards a year and a half or so ago when they were significantly cheaper and I got them for both purposes of having them to move in at any time as well as keeping them as a collectible. In general, I'm okay with buying amiibos for dreamies, but at reasonable costs.
I bought a bunch of Amiibo cards for my favorite villagers previously, when the prices were somewhat lower. Several were $1, but I believe the most expensive one, Stitches, was something like $11 or $13 (I don't remember the exact amount). I spent around $25 total for six cards that I wanted. I have yet to move any of them into ACNH (I was waiting for all of the moving-related glitches to be resolved first), but knowing that I could bring back favorite villagers in ACNL reduced my stress and helped me enjoy that game more, so I think it was worth it. Sure, there are new animals I like, but adding in a couple of old favorites really improved my gameplay experience, and I'm glad I did it. I'm highly influenced by nostalgia, though, and my biggest AC fear since the GCN days has always been having my favorite villagers move out, so in a sense, I saw it as paying for security and peace of mind.
I will say that I had a very hard time bringing myself to spend more than $10 on a single card, and even exceeding $5 was really pushing it. I decided to take the plunge because I knew I would invest a lot of time in the game, but I'm not usually a fan of a pay-to-win style of gameplay (though in AC, I guess one never really "wins," anyway).
If I didn't have any cards, I could see myself potentially spending up to $15 or $20 for a favorite villager. But I would probably still cap the total of cards acquired to $25 or $30, so I probably wouldn't acquire as many cards. Many of the villagers I bought for $1 two or three years ago are now going for $25 apiece or more on eBay (or were as of a couple of weeks ago), and I don't think I could justify those prices at this point.
I would not pay real money to adopt a villager from someone else, however. The big appeal of the cards is knowing that I can move the animals in whenever I want, as many times as I wish to do so.
I own a LOT of amiibos. It’s because I bought them early and often at regular prices. Like a treat for myself, and not a very expensive one at that. Over time my collection grew. I recently bought a mystery pack for like 12 bucks which is super high, but I got Ankha in it, a dreamie of mine (and a lot of other people) so it was definitely worth it. I’m planning on dedicating one spot in my town for cycling out high-demand villagers so I can trade them for a reasonable and fair price to others. I am hoping to give people a chance to get their dreamie without breaking their bank.
yup, bought kikis card way back when they were first brought in, around 15 dollars. Now she is around 80 dollars for the real card on ebay (australian)
also bought 2 of the RV villagers because you couldnt get them elsewhere, like 3 dollars each for tad and billy because I wanted the furniture in their houses for my town.
I prefer buying specific cards over the rng of the packs, but I do agree that the satisfaction from finding them naturally in game or even scoring a trade on the forums is way higher to me than simply scanning someone in. Kiki is the only one i've done this for.
The way I play animal crossing I tend to have 3 or 4 ultimate dreamie villagers who I go to lengths to get in my town (hunting down trades, buying with in game currencies) and then I rng the rest of them, so the cards are a nice back up just in case but I don't see myself buying any more unless theres a drastic price plunge.
