When you're trying to collect stuff, asking is always worth a try. Asking once is fine in my opinion, but I agree that continuing to ask afterwards is annoying.
Also, you don't mind giving away collectibles?!
That's impressive.. I find that collectibles are more valuable then they're said to be worth, so I don't think I could part with mine that easily...
