So when the halloween update came out, i started to build a horror town but it took me quite a while to complete. Even after october 31st I wasn't done. Heck, im done with my island now but a couple rooms are not and I was contemplating not even showcasing my town or even post about it at all and just erase it since everyone is probably more into christmas now. My town doesn't really use a lot of pumpkins at all except for my pumpkin patch so i'd think its doesn't need halloween to be relevant at all?

anyway! if anyone would like to visit, the DA is 2666-9590-7972 !

I think it would still very really cool to visit! I feel like people shouldn’t stress about matching their towns to the season, especially when we only are able to start getting the furniture like a month before the holiday. Whatever you want your town to be it should be if that’s what makes you happy! Plus now the leaves on the trees are brown which will probably just add to the ~aesthetic~

I think there's always someone out there that will be interested in visiting a specific themed town. Horror towns have always been popular for many folks! For me, it's not dependent on being released around Halloween, especially if you don't utilize a lot of pumpkins or anything. If it makes you happy and enjoy building it, I know it would be awesome to someone out there too. Maybe wait to post your DA until after Christmas when there's no more holidays to decorate for. Then people will be looking for something exciting to visit and you won't have to compete with all of the holiday decor! Best of both worlds, it also gives you more time to decorate!

Themed towns really became popular with the creation of Aika village in acnl (classic horror town) and there is a pretty decent following of horror towns year-round.
Even if its Halloween themed, the ac community has always loved their horror towns c:

I played NL before. Did Aika village really snowballed the trend of themed towns?

Yes, I think people would definitely still be interested in horror towns! What made Aika village so unique in New Leaf was the fact that it told a story, and its horror was less dependent on scary imagery and rather more abstract, with weird rooms that allowed you to form your own theories. I know the question above was not directed at me, but yes, I really do think Aika village popularized the whole “horror town” thing.

Yep!
In previous games there wasn't really a big trend to have a "themed" town because the only way for people to see it was to know your friend code or be close by to visit. There wasn't any pressure to be overly different from the next town; there was a lot less pressure in decorating overall.
In NL when dream addresses became a thing people wanted to stand out, and aika was one of the first to really have a set theme with a story and put the visiting player through a mini adventure. There may very well have been others but Aika was one of the first to become extremely popular and shifted the way a lot of people played AC.

After Aikas popularity blew up, people began to come up with a lot of different themes. The use of additional player characters to work as plot points, different kinds of buildings, etc. became a common feature of most towns because of the way Aika told a story from house to house.

Horror towns specifically became very popular at this time because there was so little to work with it was a challenge to try and get the same feeling Aika originally gave the community. People wanted to emulate it or try to make something even creepier c:

I think horror towns can definitely be a year round thing! sometimes I'm just in the mood to walk around something spooky/creepy. when I get a free moment I'll probably have a look round!

ah, that looks great! while halloween may have passed, i’m always interested in anything horror-related and so i’ll definitely be giving your island a visit sometime!

I would still visit Halloween or horror towns. It sounds like you put a ton of work into it. Kind of a shame to tear it all down. I would love a year round Christmas town, but I would need to stay in winter for it to look nice, so I decided not to do it. I decided to just have areas that I redecorate for the season or holiday. So far, that's been a lot of fun. I also have a teddy bears holiday house. It's not finished because I'm waiting for Turkey and toy day. This way, I can display certain holiday items year round.

I'll check your town out tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing it. 😄

Absolutely. I love towns that have any kind of story/thought behind them and horror towns tend to fall into that category.

I would love more story-based towns, horror or not.
I’ve visited most of the bigger horror towns in both NL and NH, but I still wish there were more.
Another type of island I’d love to see is like a suspense or mystery island where you have to figure out what’s going on.

ooh a horror town! i love it :) themed place takes so much time to build it doesn't matter what time of the year it is, it's still awesome!

I will definitely be visiting - sounds awesome! Themed islands take a lot of time to create, so I’m excited to see what you came up with! I also find they are much more detailed, which I can see is true from your picture 😊

If you like your island, that’s all that matters. In my opinion, you can tell which users genuinely enjoyed creating their islands and which ones did it for views/stars.

Keep on keeping on with your theme! That’s not to say you can’t leave an area to re-design for the holidays. Maybe you could do a murderous toy area for Christmas? 🎅🏻🔪

I've been to the original Aika village a couple times, and it was awesome. Whoever made the town even put bridges in a certain order so you could only walk through the town the way that the story goes. Pretty smart, huh? I think the installment of the dream suite was a really good idea. I've been to many NL horror towns and they're super fun all year to visit. Anyway, your town looks awesome and as soon as I buy the Nintendo Online I'll be sure to visit through the dream suite.

Just visited... WOW! It was a blast!! There is SOOOOO much to see.

I love the bloody footprints to show the way. Also love the cicadas placed around for added creepy sounds! The “wedding” scene was super creepy too. Everything about the houses - chefs kiss. Dollarwise scared the bejeezus out of me lol

Saving this one and will be returning 👏👏

I love horror based towns! It's funny because I usually don't like watching horror movies, but I do love creepy atmospheres in general. I'm working on a town that's a little creepy (not really full blown horror though), and I think it's really creative to see what kind of horror themes you can come with given the limited items you have in-game. If a town tells a story, creepy or not, I'll enjoy it, so I'll for sure visit your town! :D

My town doesn't really tell a story. They're all just horror imagery i either got inspired from horror media or are my original ideas. hope you'd enjoy the visit still though!
