I have nine villagers at the moment and it's been at least five days since someone asked to move. Naturally, I was worried since 7 of them are dreamies I would be crushed if I lost. So, I changed the DS clock 15 days ahead, made a new character, but no houses were missing! Does this mean that no one had thought of moving yet or is this weird? So if there isn't a villager thinking about moving and you don't load the game for a while, then no one will be gone? Also, I've had ten villagers for a long time, so I'm wondering if the time it takes for a villager to decide to move is longer for when you have nine vs. ten, because I think a villager tried to leave like every two days. Thanks!

It's not every two days. That's the most common time span, in my experience, but sometimes it takes longer than that for a villager to think about moving (I once had a week during which nobody was thinking about moving, and I did check ahead with a new character).

If you leave the game alone while nobody is thinking about moving, then everyone should still stay there while you're away. I'd advise against it when it's been that many days, though, because someone can start thinking about it any day now (this means that unless you're stopping right now, if you play tomorrow, someone can think about moving). If you want to be extra safe, you could travel day by day with your mayor, and for every day that you go through that way, use a new character to check ahead of time. When you do find someone who is missing in the future, load as your mayor and talk to them. If they don't immediately ping you and don't tell you about moving in conversation, save, quit, and find them again. Do that last step until they ping you.

After that, you can safely save and leave your game alone because nobody will move.
