Why do so many people reset for villagers?

Again, I'm not saying that people who play this way are playing it wrong! I was just wondering WHY they do it, because I didn't know why you would. This is an Animal crossing forum right? We're allowed to discuss opinions? xD

So you wouldn't mind if a villager plopped down on all your perfect fruit trees? I would reset if I saw that. If it is a villager you absolutely detest, then more reasons to reset! Sometimes people also make giveaway towns dedicated to giving away villagers, and they want to reset so they can get villagers that other people want.

But I swear you can't reset AFTER a villager moves in? So do people reset just incase its an bad villager? Besides, they have small houses, they would only squash a few trees! (Though I agree it's annoying!) awwwhh that's a really sweet thing to do :3

I like to keep my favorite villagers, such as Nate (who I didn't reset once for), but I feel if you reset you never give the other villagers a chance.

Yeah that's one of the reasons I don't do it - what about all the villagers who I don't really know, but I might really like if i give them a chance? Totally agree ^.^

I'm with you in that I don't care where villagers plop their houses. I'm much more concerned about which villager is doing the plopping.

If it was possible to avoid spoilers, I'm sure my virgin experience with the game would be more "pure." However, that would entail keeping off the forums and away from the Wiki pages. The game has been spoiled for me in that sense. I really knew nothing about the game on June 9th when I started. For all I knew, the five villagers that were in the town when I got there were the same five villagers in everyone's game. I had no idea someone new would be moving in the next day--and even then all I knew was the name (it was Phil, by the way)--meant nothing to me because it was just a name that I didn't associate with anything. The anticipation for the next day when Phil actually moved in and I got to meet him for the first time was a lot of fun.I didn't even know he was an Ostrich at the time. I thought he was some kind of peacock. Flurry was one of my original five villagers. For about two weeks I had no idea she was a Hamster. I though she was a bear cub. I had no idea there were actually Bear Cub villagers and that there were enough Hamster characters to populate a whole village (and more).

Once the game had me hooked, I started looking up information about the game and saw all the different species of villagers and all the personality types, character designs, etc. If I didn't know what I know now about the characters, I'd be equally excited if Tangy moved in, or if Flo moved in. If I left everything to chance and found Tangy's house in my village, I'd be cheering; if I found a house reserved for Flo, I'd be wishing there was something I could do to change that.

I'm sure part of the design of the game is that it lets you surprise yourself. I could very well be surprised to learn that I quite like a villager that I didn't think I would. As it is, I'm learning that I really like the Sheep and Cats, when I never would have thought I'd be actively searching out specific Cats and Sheep.

Whoops didn't quote you - will you be putting your sky town on the dream world? I'd love to visit it when it's done :D damn I don't think my iPods letting me quote people - just ignore me! xD God I'm such a n00b.

I use the reset trick when I know a villager is going to move in, I don't want them placing their house on my path/flowers!
The first town reset I did was because I didn't like my own layout. The second time was because Diva the ugly frog moved right in front of my house. Other than that, in my current town I've learned to roll with the punches and just use the house placement trick.

Cranky Squirrel - another really good post! Yea I love the surprises in the game, it's a shame they wear off after a while :(
Gingersnap - fair enough for resetting those towns, ugh Diva is the absolute worst!

I kinda agree. Some are constantly resetting the game to get the 'perfect' villagers... why not just start playing the game already :c
I accepted my villagers, even though the only ones I liked were Carmen and Melba, but eventually I began to get such beautiful villagers like Diana, Wolfgang, and Zell! c:

I just would never do it.
1: it's boring
2: it's time consuming
3: it would take the fun out of the game for me - I like the fun of finding a new villager plot, and seeing who it is. I like the challenge of fitting the new house into my town. It's fun getting new villagers and warming to them! So people, why do you do it, and is there anyone with the same opinion as me?
I'm new btw. Hi! :D

Why do people go on the forums and try to get villagers?

Yeah it feels like such an achievement when you get nice neighbours just by chance! And it's also an achievement when you finally manage to get an ugly villager *cough, Harry* to move out :')

Yeah I know, my friend reset for 2 weeks because she didn't get "perfect" villagers. Like??? Just play the game and enjoy it. Meanwhile I was really far into it, enjoying myself in my town.

Some people like it, some don't.
As some people here are saying, just let them do whatever they want and enjoy the game yourself.

People have different ways of playing.

And as I have said numerous times, I'm not stopping them. I was asking for the reasons why they do it. People do get very offended on this forum! :P

Most people enjoy getting their dream villagers. Maybe they feel better getting the villagers themselves instead of having some other member of the forum work to get a villager and give it to them. Also most people reset for good town layouts because those are permanent.

Yes many people have this thing about 'dream villagers'. And I understand, I just like letting other villagers have a chance :p just my opinion.
