Why do so many people hate uchi villagers?

I just see a lot of hate directed towards uchi villagers and I always wondered why, because I like their personalities a lot.

i hardly ever see hate towards uchis - i mainly see it towards jocks, though lmao. i personally like the uchi villagers! it’s not my favourite personality but it’s still a good one and has a bunch of cute villagers in it! ;v;

I'm guessing a big part of the problem is most of their designs aren't appealing to certain tastes or aesthetics. Lot of them are straight-up considered ugly. There aren't a lot of them either, so not a lot of choices when picking one based on appearance because few of them clearly stand out - there's Cherry, who has a cult following, and then... uh, Reneigh exists I guess? And then it's like people just kinda settle for the rest of them - Pashmina, Deirdre, Agnes, Phoebe, etc and the feeling tends to be "yknow they're not so bad" but they're never anyone's fave sadly.

I second this. None of their appearances are WOW I WANT THIS VILLAGER. Buuut that being said I’ve grown to love Reneigh. <3

This basically nails it on the head. A lot of their designs are definitely leaving something to be desired. I really like Cherry, and usually have her in my town as my Uchi. I kind of like Phoebe as well... other than that the rest are pretty meh imo

They aren't exactly great in design as the others have said and sometimes they're just rude but I think once you get to know them they tone down a bit. I love Cherry as she was my starter.

Are the sisterly ones the uchis? I like Reneigh but that's it. I hate Phoebe..personal reason and Cherry is god awful ugly. She looks like awful cubism art

I LOVE sisterly villagers and imo it's the best female personality of the game.

Concerning their design I like them too, yeah they're not as "wow NEED immediately" than some others but with time I realized that it's not necessarily the design we think is great at first sight that is, in fact, great in game.
Because we have the tendency to neglect the association of charadesign/dialogues/animations which is what really matters. I didn't though I would love Deirdre so much before playing the game and now I don't want her to leave ever.

I think sisterly villagers have design that are less "in your face" but fit really well with their personality.
For me all of those villagers are great : Deirdre, Renée, Phoebe, Cherry, Agnes, Fuchsia, Hazel, Muffy, Reneigh, Katt, Canberra...

I really like fuchsia and mira’s designs, I had Tammy as my starting uchi as well and loved her when she was on my island.

My uchi is canberra and i wanted to get rid of her one time, because she annoyed the heck out of me. But over time, ive grown to appreciate having an uchi simply because all the other villagers need an uchi!

It’s pretty much by design, I do like some uchis though, but it’s not much.
They do have a cool personality though.

i actually really enjoy their personality, yes they can be quite blunt but they're also fun and caring and it's kind of comforting having them around lol

as someone who cares about personality balance and having one of each type, i just wish there were more uchis to choose from. i have every type on my island except uchi bc i'm not particularly in love with any of their designs. imo some snooty and peppy girls should be uchi instead

I agree with the design, none of them really wow me tbh, I do want Muffy on my island because she fits in my theme's island so that's good, but I do hope they add more Uchi villagers in the future for variety, we seriously need more on that category so that people won't overlook them...

Frita is my favorite Uchi. Shes got a wonderful theme and her house is a little 70s diner. She has french fry bangs too! plus she is a sheep~

Agree so much! (However, I still really like normal villagers since they are more in line with my own personality, but still...). I love their more independent (at least, that is what they radiate to be) personality and cool, different designs.

Also: hear, hear! Same about Deirdre. I only noticed her a couple of weeks ago (granted, I never played NL religiously) and she has become my favourite. She is never leaving my island.

I agree that it's probably because of their designs not being textbook cute or adorable. I wasn't fond of them as well, but Canberra grew so much on me in NL and I can't let go of Reneigh either. This happens with most of my villagers though - I get someone that I don't want to keep initially and then end up liking them a lot.
