Why do so many people hate uchi villagers?

I only see hate towards them in this game. In this game for some reason, they seem kind of passive aggressive or kind of cocky. In new leaf, they were really awesome.

Most of them truly are not pleasing to the eyes, I had Cherry for a while and also got her photo along the way but something about her just throws me off. Also had Phoebe but accidentally told her to move out cause I was still new to the game lol. If I had to pick one Im definitely going for Phoebe again, she reminds me of a chocobo.

I disagree with everyone saying they’re visually unappealing, beauty is subjective but personally I think Phoebe, Cherry, Canberra, Agnes, Plucky, Renee, Reneigh, Diva and a few others are some of the more interesting designed villagers. I prefer all these villagers to the plain and frankly boring designs of far more popular villagers like Goldie, Raymond and Beau. Although I do agree that there being so little of them does make it difficult for those to choose one if they’re not a fan.
In terms of dialogue I don’t find them too rude and they are far less annoying than peppy, jock or even smug villagers are in this game

What I notice most is people complaining about their dialogue. "Is this island not big enough for the both of us?" gets taken the wrong way a lot. It doesn't help that this can come up as soon as the second conversation of the day with an uchi.

Also, I didn't realize how much people hated uchi designs until this thread. haha.

It’s a shame people don’t tend to like Shari or Plucky. One person who visited my island told me how they don’t care for Shari and when I googled Plucky to find cute pictures of her, the first results are pictures of people digging holes around Plucky and hitting her with nets.

But why, though? Plucky and Shari are SO cute.

I think part of it is due to the fact that they seem to get annoyed quicker than other personality types when you talk to them more than once. I have 3 uchis on my island so I can understand that.
Their designs aren't bad but you either have to like them from the start or they grow on you later.
My favorite is Muffy but others think she's ugly. Lol

I’ve had Agnes and pashmina before, I liked them a lot! I would want Muffy, I think she’s super cute! I love the personality type, I like the bluntness. Lol or it’s just the Aries in me.

I don't mind them, though I don't like any of the personalities in NH as much as I did in previous games.

They've dumbed them down so much I've got to hit my head with a shovel to lower my IQ to relate.

I actually like all of the uchis. It's not true that no one has faves, I got Muffy recently which I was super excited about.
I guess none of them are really conventionally cute, but that quirky alternative look is appealing to me. It doesn't make them badly designed, just not everyone's cup of tea. My arguments for uchis being good:
I like how a lot of them reference different fashion styles/sub-cultures. Other more loved personalities have popular villagers which are just "cute, brightly colored animal" which has its appeal, but uchi villagers have a bit of a story. Plenty of them are punks, one is a gothic lolita, Diva references old school Hollywood (hence her house being Egyptian themed), Renee is a sukeban, Reneigh is apparently a reference to Rihanna??, many just have flashy makeup and piercings which is super cool.

I appreciate the uchi personality, but their designs leave a lot to be desired--especially because I find that not only are some of the designs not particularly aesthetic, but I don't find that they match the sisterly personality. Fuchsia was my starter uchi, and while I really liked her, I feel her design would've better suited a snooty or normal villager. before I restarted my island I had Muffy who fhjdsfhksdf I absolutely despised so WHEW

I now have Pashmina moving in and she's probably my favorite design--she looks to fit her personality and her little eyeliner is too cute :,)

i don'y personally! i don't really care about the looks unless i'm making a themed village to be honest. i think people just don't find them cute, like merengue (i don't hate her, she's in my new leaf village sdkfjsdk), tia, marshal, etc. i love the uchi villagers honestly! i think it's just that people don't give "ugly" villagers a chance. it's really a matter of letting them grow on you i guess.

Ok, I just need to put this out there, but I love the Uchis' design I have Pashmina, Muffy, Agnes and Fuschia on my list of villagers I'm hoping to meet on an NMT Island, and I wouldn't mind Shari or Tammy either.

Cherry is one of my very first villagers and to me Uchis' are the personnalities with the most interesting (and obvious) development as I could really see her warm up to me.

As for their unpopularity, lots have been said already but I'd agree they are the furthest away from the "cute" villagers as their designs tend to not include sweet or just natural ones (like Fauna or Flora)
They're also less fond of you in general (compared to Peppies who'll scream "You're the best" in your face every minute or so haha)
