Why do people hide on the island?

I've trolled on the island a good hundred times, and I've seen almost every reaction there is, so I'm pretty well-rounded in that field. What still amazes me is when people decide to hide behind trees and the hut. I've asked the person who hid, "Why are you hiding?", but was given no response. It normally goes hand-in-hand with the waiting game, and I understand the waiting game, but why do people find it necessary to hide as well? Even if I can't see you, you can still see what I say, so why hide?
