WHY!? (Data Corruption, ETC?)

I think everyone else has answered your actual question (the why part), but a lot of the time it happens when you turn the system off or remove the cartridge while the game is still saving. So avoid doing that

When these threads pop up, there are usually a lot of people who come and say "i'm so sorry, you poor thing, let me offer you tons of bells and hybrids to help you with your new town!"
Corruption is actually pretty uncommon, but these threads are not. So I think a lot of people fake a corruption just to get free stuff for their new towns, lol
I am not accusing anyone of anything though, just pointing out that this probably happens a lot and it's a reason that someone would lie about corruption

Not that this is necessarily a faked acorruption. The photo's pretty clearly fake, but that doesn't mean the whole thread is. Maybe his town really did corrupt, which would be very sad

Easy solution: people will believe you if you just take another photo, maybe at a different angle this time and not zoomed in like that haha ^^

Just curious though, if your photo is real, why doesn't it look even more like the photo of the guy another person posted? With your town in the background and a different screen at the bottom? Yours is all green like the grass pattern, whereas that guys is not. His looks like the game loading screen only with the corrupt game text on it and yours is all grass. Wouldn't the game corruption screen look the same for everyone?

It's kind of obviously photoshopped though. I mean just look at the edges of the DS screen, they aren't straight and the grass pattern on the background repeats awkwardly. Not to mention the photo is at the same angle as the DS in the photo someone posted a few posts down from the OP. If it's not photoshop I'd eat my hat.

Usually data corruptions = a black screen, NOT a message popping up saying so. If the physical copy is corrupt, then it should appear black. My wild world copy was seeded, and the screen was black when I loaded my game. My next copy corrupted in the middle of play and was black. Luckily my final copy had no problems.

I had a friend online who told me her game corrupted due to not ejecting her SD card properly. The game never showed up on the 3DS even though it was a digital copy.

Physical copies usually just go blank, if they do or ever become corrupt

Judging from the bottom screen, it should display the Continue, New Save File, SpotPass and Update Data, or the Press A to Continue screen(s). This can be proven in this, where he has the physical copy and it corrupted

Thanks guys, I think it was my SD Card! I'm gonna see if I can try getting me game back, I remember backing up my 3DS a while ago But if that doesnt work them might as well contoinue my starting over.

I believe in you OP, also for me the photo looks legit.
I can't say why something like that would happen, but it sure is terrible. At least it wasn't your main town. Try checking nintendo's site to see if they suggest anything like cleaning your 3ds

If the game actually corrupted, I'm almost certain that it doesn't start with that fuzzy stuff. There's really no reason why the surrounding area should be fuzzy, no matter how terrible the quality of his camera is. Also, this is the first that I've heard of a game crash like that. 99% certain that if it crashed it'd take you straight to the home menu and then tell you it crashed (this has happened with my YouTube application on my 3DS before). If this is truly legit my sympathy goes out the OP but I'm leaning toward the photoshop idea. Too many holes in the story for it to be true.

OK! I had synced my 3ds to my computer brfore so I GOT MY TOWN BACK YES! It a bit underdevploed since it been on my PC for like 5 months but I still have jy dremies and hybirds! YES! Also i dropped my 3ds many times and it has a few dead pizels so thats why it may look photoshopped.

Five months ago? For backups to work you have to always have the most recent backup, which would be the one that happened right before this corruption...which I presume was yesterday.

Two things,

1. I thought that if you are able to retrieve the town from a backup, it HAS to be a digital copy, which you said before it wasn't. A physical copy has the data, not your SD card. Correct me if Im wrong but thats what Ive heard

2. The 3DS from the picture of the dude on youtube and yours are so similar its fake. The shimmer of the 3DS and the small bits of dust match identically from the two pictures, and yes I zoomed in.

So.. Maybe if you had taken a wider shot, and one with your room or somethinf, people would believe you.
