Yes, I have read the bible. Not the whole thing, but many of the books. And I have to disagree with your (Whiteflamingo) statement that Christianity is based on the Old Testament. I believe that really the basis of Christianity is in the Gospels which are in the New Testament. The New Testament is what sets the Bible apart from the Torah for instance. I tend to think of the Old Testament as providing context for and preparing us for the Gospels. And what happens in the New Testament (Jesus dying for our sins) makes it so that we don't have to follow much of the Old Testament laws like not eating shellfish and pork and stuff. The thinking is the Old Testament laws were part of covenants God made with men such as Noah and Moses, but when Christ died for us a new covenant was made by his blood that replaced the earlier covenants.
