When do the leaves change color in your area?

Here in the Midwest I’d say the colors are best in mid-October to early November. However, the Midwest is not the most beautiful of areas. If you want an absolutely STUNNING show of autumn go to the Appalachian states.

I currently live in the US south and October-November (especially November) is about right here too. I would suggest November as the best month in general for the US. I've lived in several US states over my life and that seems the best month to see fall colors.

I am located on the east coast of the US and our leaves typically change color in late October through early November. Those are the best times to see peak fall colors around the mountains.

In Illinois it depends in certain areas when the leaves change and depends on some trees. For me my tree in front of my house is always the last one to fall leaves and change color, it starts changing colors somehwere in the middle of October and falls in November around Thanksgiving, My tree is just too healthy so it's always pretty late. Other trees around my area normally start changing colors in September like in the middle or late in the month and sometimes in the mid October, and they are very orange in the start of October if they'er early birds. Yay!

Generally, it depends on the temperature. Autumn of last year was fairly warm, so the leaves started changing colour very late and the first snowfall happened fairly soon after, so we didn't get to see the fall foliage for long. This year, some trees having started changing colours, so hopefully, I'll get to admire the foliage of the forest behind the backyard while working from home.

Like @Your Local Wild Child said, the application mountains would probably be the best place to see all the leaves changing. I would personally recommend driving on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park (located in Virginia) to get some great views. I have not been on it in the fall, so I do not know what time the leaves will change at, but the views are amazing. The drive on that road takes about 3 hours as costs $30 a vehicle (I think), but its well worth it. I will attach some pictures below too.

EDIT: I found this fall colors site for Shenandoah so it may help you judge when is best to see the leaves change there if you do plan to drive through there!

Years ago we went to Vidalia Georgia at around Halloween (I remember getting a nice container of autumn candy mix for the road trip) for my mom’s work. We went through several Appalachian states during the trip. The views along the way were some of the best I’ve ever seen. I just wish we could go back...

I am south-eastern New England, and we mainly have pitch pines (obnoxious trees), scrub oak (eh, just make a mess), and locust trees (over-achieving bean sprouts), so color doesn't do much here. The rest of NE, especially away from the coast, gets decent color.

I did hear that the more northern areas of New Hampshire are starting to turn. That's pretty early, and maybe someone from that area could confirm or bust that.

I live on an island with a tropical climate sans four seasons, so we unfortunately don't experience such things.

In South-Central US they start changing around mid to late October. In 2016 I believe it was they didn't start changing until November, because it stayed hot all through October. =( I'm so ready to move somewhere cooler.

i’m in ontario (canada) and from what i usually see, they don’t really start changing until mid october-sometime in november. they don’t really change that much where i’m located in september and so, any drastic changes typically don’t come until sometime in october aha ;v;

Here in central/eastern Oregon the leaves don’t change color until late October. As brief as this period is, the colors are stunning.

i'd like to just officially second (or third?) visiting some of the appalachian region. i live in ye olde mountains and the trees are amazing in autumn. nothing's started changing around here just yet, but probably pretty soon, i'd wager.

I live in an Appalachian state in a city by the Great Smoky Mountains and it is absolutely beautiful ^o^ I don't see a change in the leaves until mid-October to early-November. Also the same can similarly be said for the temperature as well: the air in my state is still pretty warm and you won't notice a real change in the temperature until really late September or early October.

The Northeast/East US has beautiful autumn landscapes and I would totally recommend driving through that area in the fall. When I went to college in Massachusetts I think the trees began to change color around this time, but I think around early-mid October is the time when they are looking the most beautiful.

As for where I live currently in Texas we don't really get a fall at all, so I would not recommend coming here for that lol.

Yeah I live in Appalachia. They're starting to turn now, but they won't be in full color until mid-late October. The trick is to find a time when they've turned but haven't fallen yet
