it kinda confuses me

like nintendo is in Japan which is northern... why so much discourse over updates? and everyone gets the same stuff?

i didnt pick my opposite hem bc the idea of reversed seasons confused the heck out of me but the entire discourse loses me

Lots of people got hyped up for a new update & maybe they feel a little dissapointed now. I'm in the northern hemisphere but I sympathetic for them. They will get to play the same update in 6 months but that doesn't help their boredom with the game now.

has it been said that the SH isn't getting an update or something? in NL, you could dive all year around so i don't see why everyone's so convinced the SH won't be able to dive unless Nintendo has come out and said that. the reason it's marked as a "summer update" is because the game originates from japan and they're in the NH like-

Lol do people actually believe that southern hemisphere players won't be able to dive?

Anyways, the reason for the lack of updates targeted for the southern hemisphere is simply because they make up a small percentage of the players. Most of the people who play are in the northern hemisphere, so of course they're going to prioritize northern over southern.

Thing is though they are getting the update at the same time as the NHs do. Diving is a year-round activity, it's not summer exclusive.

okay so people are just being dumb then? i guess?
I don't know at this point because I was discussing this with a friend earlier and pointed out my island is in Winter season so I'm confused if SH players get the update or not. But if we're going by NL logic we should dive all year round??

i don't see any reason to think why that might not be the case, especially since the SH also got the wedding event because june is still june regardless of which hemisphere you're in. the only reason they called it a "summer update" is because japan is located in the NH where it is, indeed, summer. none of the stuff is said to be exclusive to that season and never was in NL either so.

Im in the southern hemisphere and felt a little nervous about the DIYs, not about diving. Although it is winter right now so we will be getting a slightly different diving experience to the northern hemisphere, especially if there will be fewer creatures available in winter compared to summer. The main thing was the Pascal DIYs. We have no idea what the materials are going to be, but if the Mermaid set are going to be a seasonal DIY using the summer shells then SH players are going to have to wait a whole 6 months for summer to roll around before we can start making the DIYs. Of course we don't know anything for sure yet, so maybe we've all been worrying for nothing.

i highly doubt the pascal DIYs are going to require seasonal items to be crafted since he can appear all year round and that would defeat the purpose. if anything, it'll be that he has a handful of seasonal DIYs for every season in addition to his usual DIY pool in which case you're hardly missing out because while we get summer themed DIYs, you'll just get winter ones.

also did they say specifically that the mermaid set will be DIYs? wasn't really paying attention to that one. but, again, can't see it being season exclusive anyway since it's seemingly tied to diving which isnt.

also also didn't y'all just get winter exclusive DIYs? we have to wait for those to roll around but i havent seen anyone complaining about that.

I hope he'll give special seasonal ones in addition to his normal rotation, that sounds pretty cool.
In the trailer they said "Pascal will give DIY recipes" and immediately cut to footage of the mermaid set so it's safe to assume.
Yes but I think it's more about this being new content that could potentially be northern-exclusive. Of course we still don't know though.

still, there's nothing to point towards any of it being hemisphere-locked. or, rather, season locked. also the winter themed DIYs are new content, just not for you. much like how the summer shells would be new content for you but not for me. sure, you could argue that it isn't the same because you can trade for those DIYs but you could also trade for summer shells should the new DIYs require them so.

i digress though. like i said, they used the phrase "summer update" because japan is located in the NH where it's summer. that doesn't mean the content is locked to that season and i don't know why people are so intent on jumping to the conclusion that it is.

Everyone is getting the update, and everyone is going to be able to dive. Thankfully, diving is not an activity exclusive to Summer. It will just be like fishing in different seasons. Different sea creatures to obtain in the summer and winter 😁

I don't understand whatever discourse is happening. I'm playing in the SH. I know I'm not going to miss anything, it's just going to be slightly different because of the season.

reading the other thread (i don't recommend it), that seems to be the main complaint among SH players -- that it's "unrealistic" to be diving in winter as if a) that isn't literally something some people do, b) the in-game weather has ever had a physical effect on your character and c) anything in this game comes close to "realistic".

imo if diving in the winter takes you out of the game as much as people are claiming, that sounds like a you problem and not a Nintendo/AC one.

What...? Winter swimming is literally a thing in real life, though.
What a silly argument.

the whole thread is really quite ironic because they're labelling NH players as privileged simply for being able to dive in the summer when, in reality, privilege is being in a position to complain about that sort of thing despite all the garbage going on in the world right now.
