What’s the point of collectibles?

I've always enjoyed matching them with my avatar; thought of it as "dressing it up" in a way.
Aside from that, I enjoy the aspect of collecting and using them all to suit occasions.

I asked the same thing a few weeks ago! Haha 😂

It just seems to be for aesthetic, and some for profit because they can sell it again down the road for more tbt. But for me, I'm not really interested in collectibles right now. This one that I have under my pic was gifted to me for free by someone who responded to my thread when I asked what collectibles were for! So that's why I like this one.

Maybe down the road I'll care a little more and decide to collect them for myself, but for now I just use my TBT to buy in-game items! :D

Collectibles are fun to collect and display on the sidebar, at least for me they are. I'm just barely beginning to collect them and I can't wait for the next event so I can get some more. They also show how hard I worked to get them and doing the events for them is really fun too. :)

To me, it's sort of like the knickknacks I have displayed around my house; mostly for my own personal experience and benefit. Each little collectible means something to me for various reasons but I like having then on my shelves.

In some instances, I get the impression that some people view them as status symbols and that's ok too. The rarer collectibles that are displayed on my own profile make me feel like I'm a part of the community and shows me the work I put in to get them.

I'm sure that once the bell tree fair happens, people will start saving up again.:)

Haha, I've started to become interested in collecting them too but I'm late to the party and don't know where to start! Plus with all the cool items you can buy on the forum that you can actually use in your games it's hard to commit that much TBT for a little icon.

I feel the same I mainly use TBT to get all my favourite Animal Crossing items. I wouldn't even know where to start at this point if I wanted to get into collectables.

I guess that makes sense. I would much rather spend my tbt on diy recipes or marshal instead of collectibles tho.
Yeah in the beginning I felt like this but now I did so many trades and the collectibles are staring to appeal to me for some reason 👀
I guess I'm bored

edit: I got 3 today lol

Definitely got the right idea there, yes. Demand and rarity mainly dictates a collectible's pricing, and the older a collectible is, the less active people have it and therefore the more it is worth. If you want a good example, look at the set of house collectibles that are sold out in the shop. They have all been raised at least like 8x in value, some like the yellow house even more so.

There's no point besides looking cute and giving us something to collect.

I mean... it's generally gonna be a safe bet that AC fans are gonna enjoy having something cute to collect 😛

Personally, I just wanna collect the five basic fruits right now, 'cause they'd look cute all together.

so it's pretty much pretty looking turnips that display next to your name?

also- woah. nIgHt cLoWns????? :O

Yes, that's a mind blowing way to explain them but I guess it's technically right. Also, funnily enough there is literally a collectible called 'Red Turnip' haha.

tbf, I feel like a good amount (though not all) of the major collectors on this site have been active on tbt well beyond just using it for animal crossing, so this gives them something to work on when they're not really playing that. most obvious example being the last few years before new horizons came out, in which a bunch of older (semi-)active members here (myself included) had essentially completely stopped playing new leaf. except for occasional site events that required the game for participation

of course, there's nothing wrong for using an animal crossing forum primarily for animal crossing and nothing else. either staying long term just for that or getting what you want and then leaving shortly after

which is the cool thing about the site's currency, you can use it for animal crossing (and pokemon, etc) games stuff, art commissions, collectibles, and so on. variety uses for variety member preferences, all just as valid
sometimes I ask myself, why AM I collecting some 32x32 pngs that do literally nothing but look cool under your name...
28x28, actually

Why we must have the Collectibles
