I'm getting a new switch in a month and that means I'm going to have to restart my island probably. So what's something you wish you knew before starting that I should keep in mind? P.S anyone have resident services and airport on the left bottom of their island, and how did you decorate/landscape it?

i wish i knew exactly how terraforming worked so that i could’ve planned some stuff out - i didn’t make any extravagant plans before or even after the game came out as i wasn’t sure about terraforming and was scared of messing something up - my island’s a bit too developed now to try anything and i’m content with my current layout but it would’ve been nice to be able to spruce some things up had i been educated lmao ;u;

I knew that the Resident Services building couldn't be moved when I started my island, I just severely under-estimated how big of an annoyance that it would be.
I have such a tiny entrance and I wish that I could do more with it but I've come too far to reset!

I wish I knew that you couldn't move resident services too! I just sort of assumed you could and now I can't make anything symmetrical! I also wish I knew to take advantage of the special/seasonal events. I started playing during the cherry blossom week and didn't know to collect the petals until the last day, so I never really got to make many of the items. I also wish I knew the house storage had a cap, didn't really understand that until lately!

How peninsula sizes vary quite a bit, if I knew I would have chosen an island with a bigger peninsula so I can fit a house on it. Also the importance of the Airport colour, luckily it worked out for me because the item I use the most is the streetlight which coincidently is in the colour I want it but if it wasn't it would have been such a pain.

If you care about the peninsula (the bit of grass that sticks out onto the beach) keep resetting till you get the biggest one. It's also worth noting that whatever colour your airport is, will also be the colour of the aeroplane on your loading screen when you are flying to other islands. It's such a minor thing perhaps, but you will stare at these screens a lot :^p

I started playing without thinking of those and reset two days later.

Color of my airplane and that it wont be great for my future plans if resident services is very close to my airport. i thought it would be a good thing that resident services is so close, but now i regret it.

I guess the layout of my island would be one of the first things. I sometimes get frustrated about it when I visit other people's islands. It makes me feel a little jealous of how awesome theirs looks.

At the beginning I just sorted of put houses spread out but then I decided I wanted a little villager area instead.

I also wouldn't give my villagers things I decided I didn't want anymore because it can ruin their aesthetic. I gave Renee a sports top it's often hanging in her house. I also gave Deirdre a bath robe for her birthday because I had nothing else and wish I had thought it would a bit more as she constantly wears it. (I know you can speak to Isabelle but I would've liked to have avoided that).

not so much something I wish I'd known but I wish I'd planned out my island a bit! I completely redid my villager area once and I'm on track for doing it again.. rip my bells

the ugly starter homes like with that i'd just pick something random that i could let go rather than those i want ...

I wish I knew airport colour

The aeroplane thing makes so much sense but I didn’t even put that together. Thanks for pointing that out!

that storage will be maxed out at 1,600 pieces, and it's easy to get to that limit. Especially if you're like me and buy clothes all the time in-game... I might have to use a second character just to get the storage I need.

When I started I wasn't aware that there is a bridge/incline limit of 8.
I had to change the plan s for my island because of this.

i knew about terraforming that is coming so i did not bother with the map as i found a good one, but did not consider the plaza position to be permanent. i wish it was further away from the airport.

other than that, the ugly starter homes 💀 should have invited villagers i would not have a problem moving out.. boy i really dodged the bullet for not meeting punchy at the mystery islands

Definitely wish I knew about the unfortunate look of the first 5 villager houses. I got so many villagers I love and can’t possibly let leave now but their houses are so bad : ((( would have been better to have gotten ones I wanted to leave so the bad houses could be gone...

Knowing more about terraforming, how and when building will be available, but most importantly how villager cycling and their houses work, both in- and exterior.
