New Islands 2025: Anyone Starting / Restarting?

With the Switch 2 coming out later this year and a new Animal Crossing announcement closer within reach, this feels like one of the last opportunities to start New Horizons before waves of info, hype, and content come crashing in.

Is anyone else starting up a new game,
or has started one in the last months?

Since this will be my first time playing, I'd love to connect with other new or returning players just starting out on their Islands—it would be neat to hear what you have planned and see how many people will be experiencing the early-game together this year!

As for my own plans, I'll finally be starting my first Island week after next!
I technically already founded it earlier this month, so now I'm waiting for it to hit March 20th to begin playing in real-time.

So far my only goals are taking it slow and building up a small community over time—just a nice little town surrounded by forest and fields.

Nope. I;ve thought about it, but I've become to attacthed to this one and everytime I reset I usually regret it. My current one will be a year old in June.

I put it back to 1 lvl with all my villagers moved to the beaches and went crazy. I would start over but I dont want to have to collect all the items again.

I don't think I have it in me to ever truely reset the island. The thought of having to collect all the DIYs and completing the catalog again brings me pain lol.

I have finally started redoing my island though, now that I have everything available! I'm tracking the process on a new island journal. I've slowed down a bit since finishing the entrance area, but after taking a bit of a break I'm back to working on it. Currently fighting with the farm/orchard area. It's been fun decorating though, and I hope I can finally finish the whole island before a new game gets announced.

My main island will never be reset. It took me awhile to finally get it to where I am happy with it. I also wouldn’t want to have up try and get everything especially DIY’s again.

My second island I have reset many times. I have enjoyed resetting that one but think this last time was the last time I will reset that one. I really like my layout this time and airport color. I haven’t been playing as much lately so it I was going to reset again not sure how far I would get.

i am! i reset a few months ago to play a very casual island with no plans to decorate. i decided last week to finally start decorating again and i'm slowing working on leveling the island and setting it up as a scifi desert.

if i didn't have access to this forum i would be less likely to reset as often as i do, but it's not too hard to get what i need when i can just reach out to folks here.

omg literally just restarted my town today. my goal is to not time travel at all and just take it in one day at a time. i lowkey have never played new horizons without time traveling so it should be interesting...

I've restarted today actually haha. Well technically restarting over and over and over again so I can stat with apples and a red airport (favorite irl fruit and color)

I can't respond to all your posts individually, but I really liked hearing from everyone and seeing the different points you're at:

• people starting out Islands (@pup, @Spongebob, @Not_Runo)

Obviously that's a simplified summary, but I think it's interesting to see where everyone stands five years since release of the game!

the last time i reset my island was july of 2024, i don’t think i will reset again now. i based it on my comfort film and got all the villagers i love. i will flatted and rebuild many times, i know i can't ever decide on anything. but no more restarts. all the diys and catalogue items will stay with me now. also i might finally share something of my island on social media… i always wanted to, and the community might not be as big as it was in 2020 but it’s still worth a try. :]

also enjoy your first island, it’s a joy to experience it!

There would be no way I'd ever restart my island. I've worked on it for far too long since launch and finally finished it last year. I'd be so sad to lose all of my custom designs I created. It would be cool if I had a second island but I don't, so I mostly play some HHP.

You probably shouldn’t. When I was younger I was devastated after resetting my 2 or 3 month island and if you regret resetting yours it might be worse because it’s so old
And yours will be 5 years old in a few weeks

I will be sad if I do delete it. I might maybe re-design areas of my island instead of starting new.

I’ve restarted multiple times and I still enjoy making new islands. I still play a lot and each island is slightly different from the one before. I hope everyone enjoys playing NH even now.

i don't have it in me to ever reset but if i can get a second island through the switch 2 .... ( っ˶°૦°˶)づ ✧ the possibility is there !!
i think it would be fun with a new map where the airport, peninsula, resident services, and river mouths

Meeee! I reset mine on 1st January 2025 for a fresh start. It has been fun redesigning a new island and slowly decorating it.

i never actually got my island to a point i was happy with... so yes, i am restarting again. do i miss my catalogue and diys? sure, but those things can always be rebuilt. just taking it slow this time to avoid burnout!
