I'm back, dummy!
The movie was definitely cel-shaded/2D-animated, and it centered around these kids living in the sky. They were in an airship, and a bunch of enemy planes attacked. So, the kids went to man the turrets and fire, but only one of them survived. When the surviving kid looked into the nearby turret, it was empty, bloody, and a large hole was ripped into it (implying the body of the kid fell out off-screen).
Later, there was funeral scene were a coffin was lowered and disappeared into the clouds/fog below, as if being "buried in the sky".
It's DEFINITELY not Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa, Aerotroopers, Skyland, or Sky Crawlers. It wasn't 3D-animated and it definitely wasn't a TV series.
BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS CALLED and I really want to see the movie again. Been looking for that movie for years. Anyone have any idea what it is?
